Prop Shaft greasing.

Hi guy's

How often should the prop shaft be greased? and what would be a suitable grease to use.

My car is a '86 spider, my mates car is a 1750 GTV I imagine the same regime could be applied to both?

Every 15000 miles according to the handbook.

But how on earth do you do it? Its not clear from the diagrams.
the splines are covered by the front driveshaft... surely you dont have to separate them. I recall a digram of a cut out to allow grease ro be inserted but there isnt one on mine!!


Can sombody explain the correct procedure, a clear digital photo would help a lot . It creaks and sticks so its well overdue for attention

I believe there's a zerk fitting you can attach a grease gun to. You may have to rotate the driveshaft by hand to expose it. Half turn at most to find it. Be careful you don't run yourself over in the process.

Yep there are 2 grease nipples, one next to each universal joint in the prop.

Just squirt in the grease untill it ouses out the sides - not too much though or the prop will fling all the excess grease all over the underside of the prop tunnel.

do mine every 6 months just too make sure (6000 miles)

well and truly greased!!

Could only find the slip yoke one though

It has reduced the lurching through the drivetrain somewhat
