Cool Help with seat belt

My 91 S4 drivers side seatlap belt wont retract or extend. I pulled my belt out and
after I disconnected it, it retracted a little and stopped. Now it is too short to put on,
wont retract or extend. Can someone tell me what to fix it or at least to extend it so it can be worn thanks John

Make sure the reel is upright when you try , if it is leaning back or forwards it won't recoil . They are very sensitive.

JARKIN Thanks so much thats what it was, although in my car the reel is under the rear shelf I was able to move it around some keeping it upright and it worked like a charm. I sprinkled some powder on the belt both sides for what ever thats worth and rubbed it along the belt. Thanks again

Agree. The S4 belts seem to have a hair trigger. I have removed the entire belt assembly from the car, held the reel upright in a vise, and played around - sometimes tapping gently with a hammer to free the inertia mechanism. More recently, just tugging gently on the shoulder belt seems to release the stuck mechanism. Or, sometimes wait until the next day and everything works. I have also sprayed very lightly with silicone spray can but I sort of remember from an earlier thread that this isn't recommended.

The #$%&* things sometimes have a life of their own...
