Spider mods

I have to ask this question. How many of you drive a concourse quallity car and how many of you make your alfa your own? From slight mods to crazy ones. I read this thread

Another Duetto Botch job on E-bay

the other day and was wondering if concourse cars were the norm or the exception. In reading the threads on the board I see alot of mods done to cars that aren't accurate but do not take away from the car. It's still an alfa. I wish there were more european car shows that had mod catagories. Kind of like hotrod shows but not to that extreme. I bought my car for fun but would like to show it, if I had a concourse car I would be afraid to drive the thing.

Thanks for listening.

I think that most people freely modify their Spiders. Original Duettos might be a different story. But wheels, suspension ,exhaust , air cleaners etc. are all fair game. These are hard cars to modify for more horsepower so the appearance items do tend to dominate.

At some point in a sports car's history it becomes so revered that absolute originality has to be retained. Early GTV's, Duettos , 2600's may be at that point, but not my series 3 car, IMHO.

Both the spider and the GTV are great looking cars, but the real beauty is under the metal, I think that's why Alfa's appeal to "gearheads" and I would bet that most long time spider owners have modified their car, ranging from mild to wild, most owners of the black rubber bumper cars would probably like to have a set of Stainless bumpers, the most common perfromance and cosmetic mod is probably wheels, and if most owners are honest they can tell you what the tradeoffs are for each perfomance mod they installed, and they probably don't really care

I think it is worth restoring a car to concours quality if the car is a rare & revered model and worth a significant amount of money. Most Alfas, although wonderful cars, do not fit the category. There's nothing wrong with going full-concours with an Alfa, however, we don't need to feel like we're destroying a piece of history if we modify the car a bit.

That's my $0.02 worth and it's one reason why I like Alfas.
