R&R Clutch Master Cylinder?

Well, my Spider didn't leave me stranded, but it was pretty close! Sitting at a light, the Spider refused to go into gear, which of course led to an "appreciative" chorus of horns from the all-too-impatient cars behind me.

I shut the engine off, put it into first and restarted, and managed to drive home (it shifted OK the rest of the way home). My mechanic says that it's likely an early sign of the clutch master failing, and by shutting the engine off and reclutching, I had the effect of pumping up the MC.

So, how hard is it to replace the clutch master cylinder? I have a dim recollection that it's not easy, but any advice, info, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Bill:
Other than the typical PIA of trying to get a wrench or your fingers into a too tight space, its really not so bad.
My question is, couldn't it just as easily be the slave cylinder, the rubber clutch hose or some combination? If all the components are the same age, my inclination would be to replace the master, slave and the hose at once and be done with it. I find it very easy to spend your money and plan your projects!

Bill-
I replaced the Slave, Hose and Master about six months ago. Here is a link to the post from last November.

Clutch Master, Hose & Slave

It wasn't a difficlut task. Just make sure you get a GOOD pair of Snap Ring pliers.

The slave cylinder is not even a year old, and I'm using a new braided SS clutch hose frm Alfastop (UK) since I kept getting "bubbles" in the rubber ones where they crimped the fittings on.

I'll check the slave cylinder boot for fluid, but I think it's the master cylinder this time since literally every other part is new or nearly new, including the clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, etc.

When you bleed the new MC, be sure to do it with the slave cylinder nipple in the 12 o'clock position, or you'll never get all the air out of the system.
