2nd gear synchro solution thoughts

Nick Muto in Los Angeles matchs a ZF transmission to the V6 engines he installs. Roman Racing uses the standard 5 speed Alfa transmission (he told me over the phone) with his V6 installation. Has anyone used a different transmission in the Alfa, besides Nick, to get around the chronic Alfa 2nd gear synchro problem? There has to be a transmission, maybe even a 6 speed, that could be substituted. It's just a mechanical device (it's only money). Alfa used the same ZF transmission in the Montreal as Nick uses.

I've heard that the gears can be lightened in the Alfa 5-speed and this reduces the workload on the synchros. Has anyone tried this? Does it improve the life of the synchros?

Here's a link to an article about gear lightening that someone posted before:

You could contact Larry Dickman JR. at APE in tracy. I have seen these lightend gears & held them in my hand. They are much lighter than stock. People I have spoken to that have the treatment to there transmissions do seem happy.
