Engine Removed Today.
Here are a few photos of a Spider engine extraction. This actually took less time than removing the blasted splash shields from behind the front tires!

Here is the start of hoisting the motor free. Note the cardboard to the right awaiting touchdown.

The tranny shifter stub on the top hung up on the floor pan, of course. I wrapped a cord around the tail of the tranny to pull it forward to free it.

We actually took a break when the engine was half-hoisted so my wife and I could watch the Soprano's !!!!
Engine compartment is basically rust free.

After looking back through the posted photos, these pictures make the car look a lot better than it really is. The paint is horrible, there are lots of dents and the car overall is "tired and tarnished". Time for a good overhaul.

Great photos of the project. I watched the Sopranos tonight too. When that guy pulled out the Maserati i was screaming "You should've gotten a classic Alfa for a fraction of the cost!!" Then again, Maserati's are beautiful cars.
good job with the car,

I was thinking to myself, shouldn't you pull the motor out BEFORE you restore the car? The car looks marvelous in the pics!
Congrats on giving birth to the motor. If we were all really smart, most of us would just assume pull the motor for most of the needed work, it's really not that bad a job, and then we can access everything that needs attention.
I should listen to my own advice more often.

See how shiny the motor looks sitting on the floor? I think that was from the flash of the camera. See how grimy and black it looks while being hoisted? That's more accurate.
The car's body tends to photograph rather well, but it needs attention. The car was resprayed without scuffing the original paint, and the top coat is cracked and peeling. Also, there are some rust spots in the rockers, as I discovered while probing with a small screwdriver.

Nice job!!!
Pulled an Alfa motor a couple of months ago. Took us awhile to figure out that you have to pull it pretty much straight up because of the tranny and firewall. Had to put it back down a few times to readjust the chains on the engine. Otherwise a pretty easy job. Just need to get some money to get it rebuilt.
Ohh yea hopefully we remember where all the wires go, thus the reason why I hate electronic fuel injection.

Great photo's, Bill! Makes it look almost easy enough for me to try! And I love how you cleverly worked your Penn State sweatshirt into the pics!

I like that light holder in photo number 4, It gets the light right were you need it.
That is a pretty clean engine and tranny. After alot of cleaning mine may be only close to yours.
Very nice job on everything.

Hey, I won't say anything about God making the sky blue & white, and that sacrificial sweatshirt is about 16 years old. The piece of parchment is even older. Still have to plug the ole alma mater, though.
Thanks for the compliments about the job, but all I've proven is that I can rip it apart !! The PO gets the credit for preserving the car all these years. I wonder if he would have sold me the car if he knew it's fate. Maybe now is the time to send him a jpeg.
