When I turn wheel to the right, my horn beeps
Hi all,
My 1750 spider's horn sounds now when I'm not moving and I try and turn the wheel to the right. It does not sound when I turn the wheel to the left. This is all without pressing the horn buttons. It is sounding by itself when I turn the wheel to the right when the car is standing still.
Let me know if any of you have had this issue and what you did. It's very embarrassing especially if I come home late at night or leave early in the morning from my neighborhood
Thanks!

It's gotta be a short in the wires underneath the steering wheel center cap - pop that off and see what you can find... it might be obvious.

Happened to me, too- I believe that the wire which connects to the horn button has fallen off, and when the wheel is turned, the wire grounds on the inside of the steering column, thus sounding the horn.
As a temporary "fix", I unplugged the horn relay, which is situated to the left of the fuse box on my car.

My brother had the same problem with a '71 Fiat Sport Coupe. He commuted to college and entrance to the commuter's parking lot required a left turn.
So, at the busiest time of the morning on campus, he would turn into the lot, the horn would blow, and everyone would stare.

There is a thread on this. In that was written that it had to do with the spring that returns the alternator stalk to neutral. Remove the steering wheel and see if the grease is OK.

I tried using the search, but no luck, would you be able to find it?
Thanks.

I agree that it is likely a short - possible worn insulation - under the horn push button.
FWIW, our '84 Spider once began blowing the horn when I let up the clutch in first gear when starting up from a stop. I figured out that there was a loop of wire that exited the bottom of the steering column (at the steering box). That loop of wire was too close to the exhaust manifold and the slight rocking of the engine as the clutch engaged melted through the wire's insulation then caused the horn to blow. Pressing in the clutch pedal allowed the engine to rock back and the horn stopped.
When I was a teenager we used to hook a jumper wire from the brake light switch to the horn as a practical joke. Whoever we were playing the joke on would drive up to a stop light and then the horn would start blowing and the driver in front of them would get mad. Got any joker friends...?

Sean,
Now that I think of it, the thread is in the dutch alfa romeo forum SCARB.
