The covers were an important part of the original design, which was modified to meet silly US headlight laws. I agree - put them back on.
This a nice color combo - same as the fellow who sent his '69 off to Poland for collision repair and restoration, no? Was it "roland?" Yes, here...

Richard,
Congratulations! I am sure you will have fun with her for many years.
Please bring her to the Concorso next year. There were 9 round-tails at the show this year, of that, only 4 were made between 66-67.

I recall they did a beautiful job, and he has before and after photos. The nose was really crunched. Search here for user "roland."

Speaker grille Rather than cut up the door panels, I have seen this done before, as it is a short route to wire the speaker. The glass is used as a reflector board.

Ok, I use the foot-wells for the speakers. Nice interior in burgundy.

Nice find
Richard:
It does look quite original. I agree with the other writers who have suggested that you should try to keep it that way/restore any odd bits back to the original status.
regards

Originality is what I like
Yes, I agree. I will maintain originality and keep it looking like the 66 Duetto it is. I have always kept originality in mind on all the Italian cars of my past.
I will be at Concorso italiano in 2008. Need to keep the Duetto ranks up.
Thanks for all the encouragement.
Now the hard part...... wait for the shippers to pick up and deliver. Enclosed all the way. It will be a long 3-4 weeks, but I can get my garage together and my lift positioned for servicing. I have a mid rise lift in my garage. The best tool I ever purchased.

Wow
Wow 2504! Thats a great example.
You just dont find cars like that here in Australia.
If they're out there it usually takes an earthquake for
the owners to consider selling.
Did you pay top collector dollars for it?
Yes or no would suffice.
Good luck with it.
Oh and check out my thin headlight rings.
I'm not sure if they're original for the model/year,
but I like look, although the previous quote about
stock standard does hold up when it's such an original Duetto.
Cheers

Not top collector price, offered to purchase RHD 1750 Spider
No, I did not pay top collector dollars for it.
I have also been offered to purchase a 69 RHD 1750 Spider in midwest US. I flew over to look at it and checked it out. The body has been stripped and fully repainted in Alfa red. It is beautiful. It is a rolling chassis with steering wheel / gauges, dash, wiring installed. A lot of NOS parts go with it. It will need the motor rebuilt, brakes rebuilt, webers rebuilt, seats recovered (comes with all new interior material) and etc. Comes with some spares. It would be nice to have a RHD 1750 spider project to restore. I may buy it, have the owner store it for the winter, and pick it up in the spring time when the weather is good. I found and bought factory original manuals for the 1750 models which would help with putting back together. I will post photos when I download my camera from that very cold and snowy trip this past weekend.
It would be nice to have a LHD and RHD duetto. Both with webers!
Decisions... decisions...... It is nice to make these type of decisions.

On the original radio install on 2 different 69s I've seen there is only a single speaker hole in the passenger's kick panel.. where the map pocket goes. I guess then stereo was not a biggie. I wonder if there is room for a hole on the driver's side foot well.
My 86 has them on both sides as well as in the back. My 67 does not have a speaker hole at the kick panel. I am putting a new system in a 69 and considering cutting out the driver's side kick panel

If you put speakers down in this location I would put a plastic shield over the top of the speakers to shed water should any get in there, or use poly cone speakers that will resist water. There is enough room behind the kick panels to install small speakers, with surface mounted speaker grilles. I would check to see if later kick panels so you won't have to tear up the originals. I would imagine they are all the same design.
