hibernation
Today was the day... Flakes have been in the air and it's rarely out of the 30's, Fahrenheit, here. So it was time to mothball the Spider for winter. This was my first full summer with it.
For hibernation, I followed the same routine I did last year:
-clean and wipe down inside and out
-aired the tires to 40psi
-added half a bottle of Sta-bil and topped off the fuel tank
-removed battery
-mothballs on camshaft cover, in trunk, in cabin
-put top up but keep windows cracked an inch
-fitted car cover
I leave it parked in second gear, without the parking brake on and block the wheels.
Good-bye til April (maybe March if this global warming continues).

It's going to smell like my Grandmother.
(OK for a Nonna but not for a sexy car)

winter storage
I've used cloths dryer strips inside, under hood, and in trunk. No rodent problems, and smells much better than mothballs.

I also use mothballs, in the engine compartment and under the car. Inside the car however, I cut up a couple of bars of Irish Spring and put them in a bowl. Much nicer smell. BTW I have heard there is a difference in the type of mothball, one has active ingredient beginning with N and the other I think begins with P. One is supposedly better than the other, I a little of both, but threw away containers so not sure of chemicals.

I hate scraping ice off windsheilds so I have to do a swap for the garage spot with my truck.
The spider gets parked outside till spring.
I lay down a plastic tarp and park the spider on top.
Then I put my heavy cloth cover on and then cover it with a larger plastic tarp.
The two plastic tarps are then rolled together at the bottom and tied with wire , a home made bubble.
I find that I have to disconnect the battery or it will be weak come spring.

I bought a Back Yard Buddy several years ago. I store my Spider 5 feet off the garage flool. No rodents.....plus some other benefits. Best $3000 I ever spent.
