Door Limit Straps

Can anyone point me to a resource showing a disassembled limit strap assembly ? Mine are quite obviously missing some important parts as they 'flop' around in the doors, but I don't want to purchase complete new assy's if I don't need to. All the catalogues and parts lists I have only show a complete assembly. I assume there should also be rubber between the end of the strap and the locating pin ?

Further, both door hinge assemblies seem to be missing bolts from the same positions. Each door hinge only has a single bolt fitted on both the left and right doors. Or are they supposed to be this way to allow for adjustment or something ? If I need to fit a bolt it looks like I'll need to remove the limit straps anyway so I can fit bolts behind them.

TIA

New assembly....

TIA: I found out, on this forum, that the limit straps do come either as a unit (about 68 american dollars from www.centerlinealfa.com) or just a strap for about 10 dollars.

Since my entire units were missing, I elected for the units (pictured). Upon getting them, I figured out that to install it, you need to knock the pin out of the door hinge to release the strap. then you need to take the door panels off and unscrew the bolts INSIDE the well that the strap disappears into. The unit then comes off from the inside of the door (at least on my '78 spider).

A practical point in removing the device; I had to take off the doors to get to the bolts holding it in place. A bit of a chore, but not too hard.

Try taking it apart- you may just need the strap... Ger

When I replaced the limit straps on my 1979 Spider I recall having a dickens of a time dismounting the inner bracket by working through the hole in the door, but I think I was able to do it. Not much fun, but I'd have thought it more so than dismounting the door. But getting into the door through dismounted interior panels might be even swifter. The new rubber-coated straps I got from Centerline were a bit stiff with new rubber tubing on the rollers. I was pleased that my doors would actually sit/stay where I put them. Then a bit later wear loosened things up and they don't quite stay as well as before. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Michael

Lazzman - where did you get the strap only (the $10 piece). I can only find it as an assembly.

Thanks - Dennis

Centerline

Dennis: I belive that Centerline (www.centerlinealfa.com) carries both the complete assembly OR the strap. They do in the catalog anyway. Good luck. Ger
