New-ish exhaust installed...

Just finally finished up the last touches on the exhaust. Ever since I got the car, I hadda pull off the old cat and replace it with a half-assed piece of tubing with both ends expanded to go over the collector and the start of the mid pipe. At long last, I replaced the pipe with a new cat (magnaflow 54304).

Installation entailed cutting the bend out of said half-assed pipe, shoving it into the back of the cat, welding it in place, and welding the front of the cat to the collector. From there, I had to reweld the flange to the mid pipe, weld another flange on to the pipe coming out of the cat while making sure their angles lined up. It was a royal pain, but it worked. While I was at it, I chopped off the rear muffler and replaced it with a straight pipe.

Anyway, sorry for the rambling, but I'm kinda happy that the exhaust, formerly known as "fartpipe" is working nicely now. The sound is now VERY nice, great idle and even better under throttle. To anyone contemplating dumping the rear muffler in favor of a straight pipe DO IT! You won't regret it.

(I'll prob post a few pics tomorrow)

I agree with dumping the rear muffler in favor of a straight pipe. The sound is plesant but not loud.

It's an '81 and so came stock w/ a cat. Consequently, I needed something on it to pass inspection.
