I'm gonna say it's either a brownish/orange Chuck Taylor, or some sort of leather top bathroom slipper with white fur on the bottom.
Nice car by the way.

It arrived! Well, last night. Couple of photos from today when I ran over to my insurance agent's office. Better photos to come soon... I need to clean her up a bit first.
Love the color combo:
Engine is present. A good thing.
Steering wheel goes as soon as I get a wheel puller. To be replaced by factory black wheel. I like the wood ones, but I have only seen a few that didn't chip. Interestingly, my first '86 had the same dealer-install wheel. Pardon the tacky Forza sticker... that goes soon, too. The vintage Blaupunkt radio will go, too. Any suggestions on a simple, inexpensive CD player? Nothing tacky. And the carpet will eventually go. Black or brown to come.
Woo hoo! Emissions passed with flying colors. In fact, the emissions tester told me that it produces very, very low emissions. He was quite surprised. He said it was half of the '04 Lexus that was in front of me.... I guess that says something for technology (though I'm not sure what...)
Small detail question... I've never seen one with this style a/c control. Usually it's flush with the large bezel. Was a/c an option on '87 Veloces? I can't remember if it was standard or optional like it was on Graduates. If it was optional, could this be a dealer install feature?
Comments, questions, concerns... please!

I've seen that AC knob and backer plate before, but on the lower console (under the ashtray next to the lighter) on older S3's.
What that means I dunno, but it's at least an original type part.

Hey Hooligan,
See this thread for my interior project:

Funny, I changed out my orginal black wheel for a Nardi Classico, added a JVC HD/CD stereo, replaced carpet, etc. I'll PM you about the wheel. I have a puller I could lend you and maybe you might want to buy my old steering wheel. Everything I did is documented in the link above.

Hooligan,
I highly recommend the JVC KD-HDR1. Its a CD receiver with built-in HD Radio tuner and MP3/WMA playback (it does AM/FM as well). It handles a JVC iPod interface where the tracks on the iPod show up on the face of the unit. It also comes with a small remote to change songs, volume, etc. which is handy as you sit kind of back from the radio in Spiders anyway.
Its currently $159 at Crutchfield:
JVC KD-HDR1 CD receiver with built-in HD Radio tuner and MP3/WMA playback at Crutchfield.com
The iPod interface is extra ($49) but worth it:
JVC KS-PD100 iPod connection adapter for JVC stereos at Crutchfield.com
This fits directly behind the installed radio between the dash and plastic duct work. The cable for the iPod runs up and over the side of the glove box and into it. All of this requires no drilling or cutting into your Spider. Another possible place for the iPod is right where the heat comes out for the passenger on top/side of the center tunnel. I'm considering rerouting mine from the glove box to this location as I could leave the iPod in the "tunnel" area and no one would know its there. (Except of course all alfabbers!)
Also, check out this thread on the mod I did with the Pininfarina blanking plate.

Ah, you're right! It was on the 83-85 console... I forgot about that. Hmm. Wonder why it's on mine. I might indeed have dealer-install a/c.

I am definitely planning to copy your Pininfarina plate! I've got one and as soon as I saw that post months ago, I knew what I wanted to do.
That radio looks nice, but I'm looking for something just a touch more conservative... something that would look more factory. I think Blaupunkt is probably the manufacturer for me.

Very sharp car! My 88 quad has a very similar looking ac knob in the same place, except mine is flush and the #'s are actually printed directly on the console cover plate. At first I was thinking mine was identical, until went out and looked. Since a/c was standard on Quads, I'm guessing yours is dealer installed ac.

Yeah, that's all I've ever seen before (like yours) and I'm usually pretty good with details like that. My first '86 had a/c (factory, I assume) and it was like yours.
Anyone know if a/c was standard on Veloces? I've seen a/c-less Graduates (and I owned one), but I've never seen a US Veloce without a/c. Maybe I've just never stumbled across one.

lgbalfa: thanks for the tip. I think Nakamichis are more than I want to pay... I want to keep it under $100. But I do want to get rid of the ancient Blaupunkt that is in there now...
Yours looks great, however! Nice Spider...
