Well..I went to the junkyard today and got a clutch pedal and pivot arm, put them in this evening...the hardest part was getting pivot pin back in...I finally ran a thread thru the pivot hole where the shaft and clutch pedal line up...tied it around the pivot pin and pulled it up into the hole, so I could get my finger under it...It's hard to turn the pivot to line up the flat that slides into the hole, but a little cussing and praying...(alternating the cussing and praying)..I was able to get it in. Now that its all back together, the clutch pedal is at the right height and she is shifting as smooth as silk..I am very happy with the results. I measured the rod length by cutting a piece of think sheet metal the exact distance and laid against the shoulder of the clutch master cylinder and just turned the adjustment screw til it was proper length..(5.28 inches) Thanks all you for help and suggestions...Allan in Poquoson.

Hi Allan,

Please update me on this problem. I think I may have the same happening with my Series 3 LHD US spec car. I've just put the problem on the forum, just in case.

I replaced the clutch pivot shaft (bought the new heavy duty one off the link suggested here). The clutch now works fine and shifts fine, but the pedal still sits an inch or two lower than the brake pedal? Should I worry with it or just leave it alone? I did set the adjustment to the perscribed 5.28 inches.

I'd not be concerned as there's the little considered aspect of how the brake pedal is adjusted too as there's a jackscrew between the pedal arm and booster that can change the height of the brake pedal in relation to the clutch. (that's not it's purpose, which is actually to set brake pedal 'deadplay', but it does have that effect on height. ie: the clutch pedal might not be low, but the brake pedal could be a bit high instead, which isn't really a concern provided there's a bit of freplay in it up there)

As long as your clutch linkage is set properly, the slave end of things is fine and it all works as it should, don't worry about it.

If it helps. mine is pretty much just like you describe, as are several others around here if you look at pictures of peoples pedals/footwells. (I think the clutch and brake being dead level with each other is the more uncommon outcome actually)

Just FYI and for future reference, this is THE source for replacement clutch pedal pivot pins:

I'm a very satisfied 3x customer.

Just a thought, but have you put the pin in from the correct side?
