Do a search under clutch and you'll find a thread on proper bleeding of the clutch system. Did you bleed the system with the slave cylinder nipple in the 12 0'clock position? If not, you've probably got a lot of air in there.

When I bled the clutch on my Jeep CJ-7, it was helpful to incline the truck with the rear end higher than the front to help the bleed process. For my Spider, that would suggest raising the front end of the car while you bleed the slave.

In my case, with the bleed screw in the 12 o'clock position I had no problem removing all the air with the car level.
