sTUPID qUESTION

I have had my spider for over three years now.

I read the books, I join the discussions, I search the web, but there is still one thing that I can't find out, and am almost too embarrassed to ask.

What are the two holes in the chrome bumper just below were the license plate hangs, on a 74 spider?

(I don't mean the license lights, which are on both sides of the license, these holes are in the bumper itself.)

Thanks

Michael

Are the holes round, maybe an inch and a half in diameter, with a short slot pointing to about 1 or 2 o'clock? I don't know when they changed over ('72?), but on my Spider, a '71, the license plate lights are mounted into holes in the bumper and not on each side of the plate. Is it possible that your car got a replacement bumper from an earlier year Spider?

Michael,

That is not a stupid question! However, my answer may be!

I assume because you mentioned license plate lights, that you are referringh to your rear bumper. If the holes are evenly spaced and are on top of the bumper, they may have been where the license plate lights were mounted on an earlier car...so you probably have a replacement bumper which came from an early Kammback (I think 71 & 72) car. They had the license plate lights in the bumper (I believe).

If anyone knows better than I, please jump in! I can't really remember if the bumper mounted lights were only on the GTV or if the Spider had them too.

Cheers,

I also think that the holes are for the license plate lights.

These lights were mounted in the rear bumper till about 1982 in Europe. You can have an European rear bumper … or a redone lights.
