Handbrake

I posted a few months back that the handbrake on my '79 Spider wouldn't hold the car on hills, but hadn't got around to doing anything about it. In the last couple of weeks, it's become totally silly - the ratchet won't hold the handle up and locked, so basically there's no handbrake at all. I took off the boot over the handle and it seems obvious why the ratchet won't work.....

I presume the little bracket it supposed to be attached (welded?) to the base of the mechanism?

You also might want to "sharpen the teeth" of the ratcheting gear, these tend to get rounded out and wont hold very well, forcing you to really yank on the handle to reach a goosd tooth, which probably eventually tore the mount loose.
Just use a file andsharpen up the corners.
