vent window latch

Does anyone know from experience if a particular brand of adhesive will actually bond and secure the vent window latch so that it can be used to lock the window, the products I've tried to date will not hold up and pop off. Is there a "trick" to getting a reliable bond?

I used the $2 brand of interior mirror adhesive from Autozone to attach both wing window latches a year ago and have had no problems.

Make sure the glass is scraped with a blade, cleaned, and then wiped with rubbing alcohol before you attach the adhesive.
Follow the directions exactly, dont use too much adhesive, do it on a warm day, and hold the latches in place for at least a minute before releasing pressure.

Dont mess with them for at least an hour after installing.

That should do it...

And then let us know how it works! But the trick is actually finding those latches. I have tried all of our usual sources. Keep watchin eBAY. But still no latches.
The search continues. I really need two of em.

I bought some from Spider Point last year and attached them with a clear, 2-part epoxy and they are still holding fine.

Rainer Hurtienne also has them.

Both places are in Germany and the dollar being weak right now will make them more expensive, but if you gotta have 'em you gotta have 'em.

Take a look at this:Jims Spider Page It has some good tips. It helped me when I did mine.

window latches

I was lucky to find one on Ebay for $5. Some people charge way too much for these things!

The Permatex brand works well, mine have been on for over a year. Last time one fell off, my friend thought she was riding in a 'murican car and has to slam the door shut. How does one politely tell someone not to slam them without sounding like a jerk?

checked out Jims spider page, he has had better luck than I have, if I can get a year I'll be happy, maybe just add it to the winter to do list, change all lubes, change brake fluid, reattach vent latch,

Keith Lawrence: I may have an extra latch buried in the garage, If i find it I'll let you know

I've been keeping my eyes open for the latches as well. I ordered what I thought were the whole latches from IAP (they're not in the catalog; I asked, though) but it turned out to be only the L-shaped latch parts and the roll pins; I still need the bases, the buttons, and the springs. If I'm looking at Hurtienne's catalog correctly (both web and print), I'm not so sure they're selling the entire latch assembly, either; it bears checking.

Granted, it's not been the highest thing on my priority list, so I haven't been looking as hard as I have been for other parts . . .

Just bought a used driver's side latch from Vick Autosports. Talk to "Chaba"....said they have more used. Cost me $12 for the whole shebang and looks brand new after I gave it a wipe.

Does anyone know what years came equipped with vent latches? My '73 vents don't even close completely, and there's no sign of it ever having latches. The car is fortunately very original, but one never knows.

My '71 is in the same shape. I'm pretty sure they all had latches. I've got new window seals to put in, but since the entire frame needs to be taken out to install them, I figured I'd wait until I had latches and everything else I need to install on the door before I started. I don't want to take it all apart twice, and I figure that if I'm going to take the window out to install the gasket, I should glue the latches in place off the car.

BTW, I got outbid on a pair of latches on eBay, and then noticed that the description said they fit Alfa and Fiat. So I searched for Fiat latches and found some that look identical, and I wasn't competing against all the other Alfisti to get them. I'm still waiting for them to arrive. It made me realize that, just as some Ferrari parts are identical to Alfa parts (and are cheaper as Alfa parts), some Alfa parts can possibly be found cheaper as Fiat parts. I wonder how many other parts, besides Spider door handles, are the same as on a Fiat?
