John,
I'm certainly sorry to hear about the failure of the springs, but I think you are right to be cautious with installing the new ones without speaking with IAP first... As for the autocross, I'll be driving my '84 Spider down, and you are certainly welcome to try it out and if you like it you may use it for the autocross, as well. Even with regular street tires, it's a very capable machine... and it has a Sperry Stage V head - just don't tell anyone!
Murray,
I think we should postpone our wager until the playing field is level again...
Best regards to all,

Guys:
Well I got a good handle on using that valve spring compressor tool now. If I hammer hit the handle "just Right" I can break the inner valve spring every time! Just kidding John Boy.
I guess you get a DNS this weekend. But that would be better than taking a wooping from Me.

Hey Bud,
Now that’s funny, all you would have to do is wait till old John to leaves the room to get another Mountain Dew then the sabotage can begin. I think I better wait a till later in the summer to get even with that Enrique.
PS: Watch out, Enrique said he's going to take you this week end.

I can tell that Murray is getting anxious here... he knows his going to loose the "double or nothing"! Don't believe him, Bud, it's just a desperate move, since he knows that once us "Megasquirters" get it together, he won't stand a chance to win any bets!
Sunday will be fun!

Oh, geez... how can you get the the specs wrong, Murray? That's a Sperry Stage V head! And as far as George, my comment was: "might give a lesson or two"... Ah,... these Nebraska boys... first they can't keep up with fast speak, and then they misinterpret it! But I'm not one to let this upset me, especially since I'm sure Murray is going to let me drive his "million dollar spider" for those parade laps at the Convention TT track, this coming August... It's the only way I could be persuaded to forgive those debts...

Well...it was an interesting day to say the least.
Along comes Johnantonio Andretti in his back up car.....the 1992 AR SV. Budsy a gloating.
The 1992 AR SV is pure stock. Stock springs, stock shocks...no chassis stiffener....no tricks...well except a recently installed Squadra chip.
The Budsymobile.....headers...cams...webers....springs .....bilsteins....chassis stiffener....some poly here and there. And this is just what I know about!
I was really expecting a royal spanking. And for the first 4 runs that is exactly what I got. But today....I walked away with some knowledge. More on that in a bit. Slapped the old hoosiers on there and off I went. I ran the first 4 runs based off the pressures that I had been utilizing with the 78 with the performance springs, konis, and the chassis stiffener. First run horrible. 38. Budsy 35. The rear driver's side tire was chattering with turn in to an off camber long right hander. Actually both tires were chattering. Thought....well...I'll lower the pressure a bit and it'll plant. A bit...1 psi. Then pulled another psi....same crap. By the 4th run.....I literally almost pushed the passenger tire off the rim. It really rolled over violently and the car snap spun....but I managed to gather it up. The sidewall of the passenger rear was clearly marked. Now stuck in the 36 sec range for runs 2, 3, and 4. Smoking the snot out of both rears on the inner fender. It looked like Nascar with a crushed in fender. Enough of this I thought. I was on a quest for air. So from 34 psi at the rear...down to 32........now taking her to 37. Way high I thought...but I had decided to make the rear end come around....slide baby slide!!!! I also went around and chalked each tire to see just how far the tire was rolling over. The front felt great at the starting pressures...but the back was just a bunch of chattering, wheel hopping crap. I had never experienced this chattering with the 78 with the pressures at 34. But I had noticed the same unpredictable snappy loose in off camber turn ins.
So off on the 5th run with 37 psi in the rear. Off the line into a big left hander and cross over. Holy Mother of Jesus, the back end is rotating predictably. Smooth as silk and the car just floated into perfect position through the sharp left turn into a straight leading into the big right hander and cross over. Down to the bottom of the hill into the off camber right hander. Still chattering but not as violently. Through the multi-cone slalom. Great!.....Bam...just like that 34.6. Budsy down to 33.8.
I came rolling back in hooting and taunting Bud. And he knew he was in trouble. He had just seen me drop almost 2 secs in just one run. Ole Budsy was out of the car in a panic. He went and added a bunch of pressure to his rears as well. Next he grabbed the chalk I had used and chalked his baby. I was just laughing my a$$ off at this point. Finally...I was yanking on his chain rather than him yanking on mine. The table had turned!
Now comes the 6th and final run. I knew Budsy would not improve. Heck his car was turning fine with the pressures he had been using. That wholesale change he made in pressure was going to screw him. And it sure did. He slowed down. Lost .3 secs. Now its my last chance for redemption or just to make it respectable. I really hadn't considered the possibility of me beating him in the 92 lead sled. But now I am out less than a sec | |
