Well... since this ongoing competition is of such interest, I thought it would be fun to identify the scene of the battle. I create the autocross courses for the local SCCA Region, and the action yesterday was in the parking lot of a minor league baseball team in Lexington, KY. For the final results, see http://www.ckrscca.org/soloevents/07...70401_fin_.htm class D-Street Prepared
Stay tuned for the April 22 episode where our two combatants will continue their joust on the paved-over surface of a local landfill (note to Bud & John; references to each other's Alfas will not be accepted when used in the same sentance as "junk")

Way to go John was it the superior car or the driving skills that won you the victory?

Left turn only - Lefty
Awe, come on guys. This course was set up by George with a dangerous off camber Right hand turn. Every body knows I can't turn right and John can't turn Left. What am I to do when it comes time to drive Waterford Hills?

It was the course. More balanced. Budsy is right. The stock seat in a 78 doesn't keep you in position when the course is all left turns. Now right turns.....its all good!!!! You should have seen the big grin on Bud's face when I pulled the car off the trailer with a terrible miss. He thought to himself, "This is going to be a cake walk!" Then I popped the hood and plugged in a loose plug wire on the distributor. It was all over for him right then and there before we even started racing.
I kept pretty quite this time around. Budsy was doing all the big talk. He psyched himself out and blew several runs. Hard to come back from that but he made it respectable. I would have had him by more, but I was gridded a few cars back of him and I knew that he didn't beat me with his final run. So on that last run I really let it all hang out and had a little sideways fun! George of course, back to his form, spanked us both!
Best Regards,
John M

I'm glad to see this thread back - it's really good fun! Now I just have to make it down there for the 22nd. I have an event on that Sunday, but this would be more fun!
Best regards,
Enrique

Who WAS that guy?
I've followed this thread from the beginning. And it's all good fun. But what's with the 86 Toyota Ae86 that beat all the Alfas?! Is he a regular in your class? Better driver? Better on this particular course? Do you ordinarily beat this car? What's the story?

That toyota is just a faster car. We beat him last year for just a little bit. Then he very quickly got serious and upgraded his car, got tires, and just improved himself. We alfas are truly at the mercy of what gets stuck in our class.
Bud will go down again!
Best Regards,
John M

That particular Toyota is sort of a "Sleeper". One showed up at the National championships a few years back and blew everyone away. I was running in CSP then and forgot about the car. Now, I'm in DSP, and guess what?. Here is one of the cars in my back yard. it's a limited production 1800cc, 16 valve, rear wheel drive. The driver lists his address as Tokyo, Japan, so I guess he is here with the nearby Toyota plant. My regular DSP competion is a friend with a Toyota Sentra SER. I used to beat him easilly, but he installed a fully adjustable coil-over suspension. This, along with the fact that he runs every weekend of the year, gave him an advantage last year. Gotta do better... there's no reason for a 68 year old geezer to be beat by younger drivers. Right?
I was .079 seconds behind, and hope that the new set of Hoosier A6 autocross tires that arrived yesterday will make up the difference.
(Note to John & Bud: I am working on the course for April 22, and there will be an even number of destro and sinestro turns)
