John,
Calmness, calmness. Take your foot off of the throttle. Take a few deep breaths... It's only an autocross. Remember what Confucius said: "A closed mouth gathers no feet"

We'll see.....We'll see. This might be just enough to form a new racing team.....Beat Turbolarespider Racing! The water may part....Moses comes down from the mount.....the burning tires speak....and Vendetta Racing and Beat Budsy Racing come one powerhouse team....we'll see soon!

Victory for the 78 Beat Budsy Racing Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce!!!!!
Bud had an off day. This was a long course....44 (Fmod race car) to 63 (Enrique's stock 74 Spider) secs taking into account all comers. At first I was beating Bud by 3-4 seconds on the first two runs. So bad was it going for Budsy that I ran over to him and said, "What is wrong with your car?!?" So I gave him my pressures and he adjusted his to match mine. He started improving but spun at one point and DNF'd another run. So 3 of his 6 runs were simply very crapola. Very hard to recover from that to win. But he did make it interesting. On that same note I toasted 3 of my runs.....but no where as bad as Bud was toasting his. One run I knocked it out of gear once. Another run I knocked it out of gear twice. And one fast run....I was looking left after the finish line trying to spot the clock...and low and behold they had moved a few of the finish cones which I summarily tagged one resulting in a DNF.
The day was just domination really. Very rare for this to occur for either one of us. Four of my six runs were faster than Bud's fastest run. I think the difference between us was around 0.8 seconds at the end. Bud seems to think he may have a problem with his motor. He as stated on several occasions that other series three local spiders that he has recently driven are faster than his. So I would imagine ole Budsy will find some more power from somewhere. And I expect him to be up to full form by the convention.
ON A BIG TWIST OF EVENTS.....Dee powered back to pass us both. She got me by around 0.18 on her final run of the day. Up until that point I had her beat too! George of course...no surprise.... spanked us all with around 2 seconds between him and myself.
Enrique came to play as well. He drove his bone stock 74 spider on street tires and as to be expected got really spanked. But hey...not bad for this slick New Yorkers first time autocrossing in a long while. He said it was his fifth autocross ever. But I think the bug has bit him and he'll be bringing out his hot rod to play on some racing rubber. Enrique kept us entertained with a spin out Dukes of Hazard style (full 360 and kept going)! And he was big fun to have down here. Hope he comes down some more for future events. Bud called Enrique.....Baby Seal Meat!!!!!.....well and I did too!!!!! Enrique was behind Bud and I by around 12 seconds or so.
So all in all...a good day. In raw time I finished 40th...George 25th...and Bud 54th....Dee 39th.....and Enrique...93rd out of around 100 drivers.
Best Regards,
John M

Just curious:
With 100 cars and 6 runs each, how long was your day?
(and it sure sounds like you folks had some fun!!)

I got there at 9 am and left after 6 pm. And I stayed for the awards. Running began around 11 or so and was done by 5. And it didn't seemed rushed. Just flowed smoothly. Two cars on course at once.
Best Regards,
John M

Actually, there were just barely 3 cars on course at a time. The course averaged over 50 seconds, and we run a car every 20 - 25 seconds. Modern timing equipment and scoring software is really great compared to the stopwatches of yesteryear. Also, on line pre registration is used by almost everybody to facilitate the schedule the morning of an event . Also, we get a good contingent of timing workers since our trailer is air conditioned. At the previous event on a smaller site, we had 90 cars, and everybody got seven timed runs on a low 30 second course.
It's amazing what a group can do when you set your mind to running a good program. The timing display in the picture is one of two; we have one for the driver to see when leaving the course, and another for spectators. The trailer was paid for entirely by our SCCA regional sponsors. Note their logos prominently displayed.

Hey Murray:
Have you noticed how quiet Enrique and Bud have been after this weekend? Did you get your $$ out of Shifty NY?
Best Regards,
John M

I'm been so busy getting my Spider ready for a test and tune event a week from next friday that I haven't been checking the BB lately. But the answer to you question is NO I havent heard from that shifty little New Yorker at all. You know how it goes you never hear from the people who owe you money!
I bet Old Budsy is licking his wounds from your total brutal wipping last Sunday. But Man don't start feeling sorry for him John, he'll be back. He may even get a little extra time to review the course map for the next event that has all left turns to it?

Hi Murray,
Our next autocross is a two-day event this weekend. Bud is entered, but John's name is nowhere to be seen
Here's the course. Note: we run opposite direction on Sunday, so the right and left turns should be even.

Hi George,
You do a nice job in mixing up the layouts. I do have a couple of questions though, how fast are you going in an Autocross for the straight away speeds and corner speeds? Is it a 1st and 2nd gear course for a 4.56 differential?
One of these days someone is going to have to do a video of one of the runs to give the people who have never been to an autocross an idea of what it is like.
