Spider heater + window glitch

This happened before to me, the heater fan and the electric windows cut out--fuse blown. I had it fixed for a year, but its happened again (no power to fan, light for fan doesn't come on dash). Can it be from water getting into the window mechanisms? Any thoughts on what the source of the problem can be?

Thanks

Is the fan motor siezed due to corrosion? To narrow it down you'll just have to start disconnecting one item at a time until you narrow the part of the circuit that causing the overload.

My thoughts

Eh... What's up Doc,

Okay, that is my small attempt at humor,

NOW to the real business, Your Alfa.... I would first get out a wiring diagram, and see what is interconnected and where. If you dont have a diagram, there are many listed here on the BB, and through aftermarket dealers.

That being said, It sounds to me like you have a bad connection along the lines, where something is corroded, and metal is touching wire causing a short.

If its both your windows, and your heater, then I would first take apart what is easiest AFTER YOU CHECK THE WIRING CHART... The doors being the easiest to disassemble.

Even if wires look "OKAY" take them apart any way, and clean the contacts, then seal them with a water repellant/electrical spray.

Usually with things like this its something really stupid causing the problems, so take your time, dont get frustrated, and learn to curse in Italian, LOL ..... IN my experience my alfa's respond best to foul language HA HA HA HA HA....

Best of Luck....

AR 1750.

I had a different problem with my spider. drivers side window stopped going down but would go up. Found the wire hidden inside the acordian sleeve between the door and the body had severed. Maybe yours is making contact to the body and grounding out and blowing the fuse.

I also found that in cold weater, the window mechanism gets very hard to operate. Maybe the problem is simply the window motor is drawing to much to pull the window. The grease for the wires turns into a sticky gunk in cold weather.

Good luck. Dave

Oh, I wanted to add one more thing....... If you are still being stumped by your problems, I would try one more thing....

Since you are in South Jersey, I would go to WWW.Alfaromeoguru.com

This guy really knows his stuff, Alfa's are pretty much all he does. He is located in Philadelphia check out his site and send an e mail.

Electrics...

Thanks all for the replies thus far.... I wanted to get some ideas for starting points--too cold at the moment to fart around without much direction in the off-chance someone had a "that just happened to me too" experience. I've gotta tie into the door panels anyhow, so thats where I'll start. I don't suspect the heater blower as that was always fine (no noises etc).

Regards
