Headlight switch

Being new to Alfa ownership (although I learned to drive a stick in one), I have a silly question. In my '73 Spider, the headlight switch rotates, and moves up/down. Which position, up or down, is supposed to be low beam? The high-beam indicator does not appear to operate, but the 'flash-to-pass' DOES, but it seems to flash the low beams! My dad, who owns 3 Alfas currently, says the 'down' position is low beams, but the lights sure seem brighter, so can anyone here shed some light (sorry!) on this? Thanx!

The up position is low beam, down position is high beam and the flash-to-pass uses the low beams. Sounds like the high beam indicator bulb is burned out.

Excellent, thanks! My dad almost never drives his ('71) Spider at night, and his others ('74 GTV w/260,000+ miles, '79 Sport Sedan) almost never get driven at all anymore.
