I usually throw them under the car while I'm working under it (just in case), I just have to remember which side is out so I don't scratch them up too bad.

The race cam finialy got here! It arrived the day after I left for Detroit but it's in now so I took it out for a country drive to check it out yesterday. Something happen to the sound when I down loaded it to YouTube? I bet the free DVD ripper I down loaded caused it?

Here's the link. The one I got was Product ID: HC-AUTO2

http://www.hoyttech.com/index.cfm?fu...category_id=17

You also need a DVD cam corder that has an A/V in slot which isn't that easy to find but I found a Hitachi cam corder that had one at Refurb Depot.

Thanks, I wish the sound came out better I down loaded a free DVD ripper that allows a free trail ripping (converting the file format to AVI) and I must have done a half dozen downloads with it. It's time to buy it now I guess.

Stuff a wad over, or make a boot of, low density foam to cover the microphone.

When you hit it right, it'll all but eliminate the wind noise without damping too much of the more 'spirited' noises you want to keep.

Even really hairy/fuzzy felt can help a bit as the wind noise soundwaves get broken up on the shag. (look at some of the stuff they use on boom mikes and whatnot for news broadcasts in incliment weather)

Not bad Murray. The sound problem seems to be overmodulated audio - its clipping at the A/D converter. Is there an adjustment on the mic? Could be the software if the original audio is OK.

Great video. But it's obvious why you were so slow at Detroit. Poor entry to corners, late apex, way late on power exiting.....

Set up for the corner sooner. Or drive deeper and brake harder while downshifting (three feet help, but that's what "heel-and-toe" really means). Aim for an earlier apex closer to the inside and hit it at full power. The extra power changes the slip angle at the rear just right and the tail comes around without changing the steering angle (minimizes tire scrub, something alfa front ends do too well!). Power - acceleration - while exiting increases the turn radius just right and you hit the straight part at much higher speed.

Enjoy. Great camera - another over-the-top goodie for a great car.

Get two sets of Hoosiers for the year and wear at least one set out practicing and driving in any TT and AX you can find. See if you can get a ride in your car with any of the winners - you've a great car and anybody would love to have a chance at driving it.

Robert

Thanks Robert,

I was hoping for a comment on my driving. I seem to get bunch up going into the corners and over slow the car. My mind goes from driving to how to get into the next gear down. Then I find myself in a hole at the exit.

That's just what it looks like, Murray. You're behind the car in cornering. To practice better cornering, downshift way ahead of the corner. Then concentrate on entry line and braking. The correct apex is before the middle of the turn because you are slowing down. As you slow, the natural turn radius decreases (the car will turn tighter), so you are not truning at a constant radius; you should be almost at a constant steering wheel angle though. Hit the apex means you are at the inside of the track and at the point where you stop slowing and start accelerating.

You should be adding throttle just before you get to the apex, so you are at full throttle right on it. The car will then accelerate and increase its turn radius as you exit.

Just at the apex you might ease the steering angle a bit (as power comes on). Under braking, all four tires are at a positive slip angle - rolling forward but sliding slightly to the outside of the turn - and about balanced (if your brake proportioning valve is set right) so the car is not turning from the slide. The throttle adds thrust to the rear tires, so their slip angle increases. This will make the tail come out a bit (or a lot if your car is oversteering hard), so you decrease the steering wheel turn-in and let the car slide outward as it accelerates.

[You occasionally see photos of cars exiting really tight turns with lots of power so that the front wheels are actually turned out of the turn altogether - the driver is controlng the rear slip so the car does not spin around by turning "opposite lock" in the steering wheel. Classic image of an over steering car.]

The tricky part is balancing all this so that you exit the turn and reach the straight just as you reach the outside edge of the track. If you are understeering and too fast, the front end will plow off the course to the outside. [Oversteering and too fast and the tail goes around and off the course in the same place, just backwards. Be sure to disengage the clutch so you don't jamb up the diff or Tx trying to spin it backwards.]

Slow in and fast out makes for faster corners than fast in and slow out - that's how most passes in corners occur.

The only really important thing is to not be jerky on the wheel or brake. Those actions will upset the car's balance and almost always make things worse. If you're too fast in a corner and there's enough pavement, turn inside a bit to increase slide - that scrubs off speed faster than braking and is more balanced - but be careful to catch a spin with opposite lock quickly (but smoothly).

If you don't panic in the middle of a turn feeling you're too fast, then almost certainly you are going too slow! Add one mph in the turn until you cannot keep it on the track, then back off .001 mph. Do that 100 times in the same turn and you will discover that you are going thru 10 mph faster than when you started. You gotta feel for the edge, baby.

Robert

Amazing car. Looks as impressive as some of the restored Ferraris on Ferrari Chat. Sorry if I missed it, but what HP do you get now?
