disassembly of duetto seats

Hi Everybody,
I'm trying to figure out how to detach the side metal brackets from the seat backs on my Duetto. I know these things always seem obvious afterwards, but right now I'm just not getting there. The brackets are attached with a removable nut at the top, but the lower nut seems to be welded to the seat frame, and not very accessable to get a wrench on. Anyone out there who has been there, done that????
Thanks,
Mike

I can't remember what the Duetto seats look like. On the 69 and later, there is a plastic teardrop shaped cover that needs to be removed. It's very thin plastic and snaps in place. Removal of that will give you access to a large phillips screw.

Thanks for the reply. Interestingly enough, the duetto seats have the thin plastic oval, but no phillips head screw underneath. Always fascinating to see how things evolve over the years, maybe it occured to Alfa that someone may want to take the seat assembly apart sometime :-) I think my next step may be to try to take the adjuster wheel apart.

They should be there. You'll need to adjust the rake of the seat to move them into position. There is a large hole that you need to align them with.

In this picture you can see that there is a portion of the "hinge" that has a gear on it. When you crank the rak e adjustment, the upper part of the "hinge" moves to change the rak of the seat back. That's where the screw is.

In this last picture, you can see the phillips head thru the hole in the "hinge". I hope this helps you out.

duetto seats

Yes, that did it! Thanks for taking the time to post the pictures, they were invaluable. It's an allen head on my seats, so even when I was looking at it, it didn't seem like anything until I cleaned it out.
Thanks,
Mike
