Tachometer cable

How do i remove the tachometer cable from my 73 2000 spider? It seems like i could get a screwdriver and start it since it's grooved.... but to get in there is pretty tough... did italians have really tiny hands???

Remove the black "eyebrow" bezel around the tach. To do that, remove the screw at the bottom and rotate the eyebrow up. Then remove the two screws that hold the tach in the black pod. Pull out the tach slightly and disconnect the cable. 2 minutes.

ya.... got that..

Ya, i got that part, that was pretty basic. I'm talking about where the Cable connects to the engine block. It sits right behind the alternator and its a tight spot. I would like to know if it's necessary to take some parts out first. Thanks.

Preferably you would pull the cable from the sleeve, lube the section that would normally be in the sleeve but avoid getting too much, if any, lube on the ends. (a tach full of cable lube is a bad thing)

Oh, yea. The other end. Well, that's a different story. It's pretty tough since the lockring is probably corroded onto the threads. All I can suggest is some channel locks, or as you suggest, a screwdriver and light hammer. If it's really on there, you'll probably have to damage the cable in the removal process and replace it.
