These bands only appear on gas pressure shocks. Stock shocks, or the traditional adjustable Konis have no internal pressure and can be compressed and extended by hand (there is some force required to overcome the internal valve resistance, but it can be done and the shock will not spring back).

But... Phil is certainly correct in his comments regarding gas shocks. The first set of these I ever installed was on a motorhome, and I had to use a hydraulic floor jack to compress the shock end back in alignment with the mounting location.

Ramps for changing Shocks?????

I'm thinking about changing my shocks myself as it sounds relatively easy

I read various posts on this topic and had a question.

There are a few references to Rhino ramps. Can you change your shocks using ramps? I'm assuming you have to take the wheels off..... so wouldn't ramps be a problem.?

Maybe I'm missing something?

Thx

Michael

Gary T,
You left us all hanging - what brand of shocks did you buy? Shocks seem to be a very serious topic here on the BB. There have been discussions on Koni, Bilstein, KYB, and OEM. (I may not have the spelling correct on these brands, but you know what I mean). I for one would appreciate your comments on what you installed and why, and your satisfaction with your choice. I am heading it the same direction soon, and would appreciate your input.
Robert
