'74 Spider Gas Tank

I am in the process of restoring a '74 Spider. Did this year have a bolt on cover like the later versions? What would be the right color for the tank? I would like to repaint it to freshen up the look. Any advice would be appreciated.

Peter.. no bolt on cover over the tank.. That was a DOT requirement a few years later... There would be a series of threaded bolt holes around the tank for the cover to adherer to firmly. the tank cover is fairly thick steel to supposedly prevent a 'Pinto' moment.... think I got a pic here too...
