67 Duetto rebuild

I have had this Duetto since 1980, it is in need of a full restoration, but I don't have the time to do it myself. The car has always been garaged, and I have all the parts for it (although some should be replaced) I am looking for someone who could restore the car. The car is located in Long Island NY.
Also, I'm not sure what is the value of the car once restored, if anyone has some advice, it would be appreciated.

It's a 1600 right? Well worth saving if the car is complete. It's a 66xxxx ?

nice project. I like white on duettos, it suits their pretty bodyline.

Depending on how good you intend to restore her, in Germany they go for anything between 25-40 k euros. I won't comment on what a proper/correct restoration might cost.........probably also 25-40k euros!

It is most likely a better candidate for e-bay or Hemmings. It is a project for sure but there is certainly someone out there in the US looking for a '67....AND with about 3 years of time on his/her hands. That special someone could also be forking out $80-100k on a top end, no hack restoration done by an Alfa expert. At any rate, it is a project NOT for the faint of heart. In the current condition, even if the car doesn't start, etc, it is worth maybe $5k. Good luck

Starting with a rusty, disaster of a basket case, with labor at $100/hour, that figure is a pretty good guesstimate. This car looks like it could fit that bill...no pun intended. If you want it done properly, in showroom condition, EASY. Like I said, not for the faint of heart, and probably only a project for the more than casual Alfisto/a. But why not, the cars are dying on the vine and need to be saved. Best Spider of all.

The car, as I know was made in 1966 and sold as a 1967 in the US, the chassis number is AR665561. The car runs, and all the parts are there, I removed all the trim and was about to take out the engine so that I could get a decent paint job, problem is I don't have the time at the moment.

25-40k sounded more reasonable to me, 80-100k I believe is probably 3x what the restored price of the car is worth.

It would be wonderful to get that car to showroom condition at 40K. Not my experience, however. I'll assume adequate paint and aesthetics for that cost. You are right though, 80k could very well be 2x the purchase/selling price at the end of the day. This is the never ending dilemma for those who want to find one in PERFECT condition. Pay the price now and save the headaches OR do it yourself and bite the bullet. True for most cars. I'm looking at the car and see conservatively $25k just from the pictures...mostly paint and body, and assuming all the sills are bad, and they usually are, it could be more.

What do you define as "restored"? Do just you want it assembled, running, and presentable? Or exactly like it left the factory? There is a several tens of thousands dollar difference between those two levels.

No one can give you an accurate quote for the restoration of a specific car over the Internet, since they can't gauge the amount of rust or accident damage, what parts are missing, ....

If no leads turn up in this thread, you might contact your local Alfa club, other marque club, or Alfa repair shops to get recommendations for restoration bodyshops in your area. Note that automotive collison repair is quite different from restoration body work.

Just as restoration costs vary depending on the degree of restoration, so do selling prices. So you'll need to tell us how you intend to complete your Duetto before we can discuss its selling price. Sports Car Market News 2011 Price Guide lists Duetto values at $17,400 to $24,400 (which is probably a little low).

Regardless of restoration level, the expense to professionally restore your car will be > than its market value.

I find myself always citing the RM 2009 Scottsdale auction. A 67 Duetto, in nearly bristol (pardon the boat reference) condition (Missing the ashtray assembly, dimple, etc) went out the door for $46K. If someone is out there looking for a complete restoration or fine original example they are willing to pay that kind of money because they know that their options are few and far between. Even at top dollar, fine Duettos are REALLY hard to find for a LOT of reasons. And I'm not quite sure there are "levels" of restoration. Once you're in, you gotta go in... though you will be underwater (darn, there I go again with nautical references).

Thanks for the input, and you are correct about the level of restoration and that the cost will probably be higher than the market value.

My idea for this car is to get it so that I can take it out on a sunny day for a drive, I didn't intend to bring to shows.

Thanks to everyone for the input

Duetto restoration

I had a two year body off restoration completed 6 years ago to a very nice standard but not concours. Including a rebuild of the engine and transmission, my cost was $55,000. I would be happy to send you pictures.
