How to paint the door arm set?

Hi,

I am a new member from Taiwan.
Currently, a 1993 S4 black Spider owner. As I known, there are only 19 S4 spiders in Taiwan. I have read many discussions on this forum to get very useful information to improve my car. Doese anyone know the detail how to re-paint the faded door arm set? I check this forum, found someone used SEM Color Coat to get the door panel refreshed like new. Is SEM color coat also OK to the arm set? There are any detail procedures to do that? I check SEM homepage, I found there are three different blacks: Satin (15243), Gloss (15233), and Landau (15013). Doese anyone know which one is suitable for re-paint the black arm set? Thank you in advance.

Hello. welcome to the AlfaBB.

SEM vinyl paints are a good quality brand. I don't know which color black would be the closest match however.

As with any painting process, preparation is a key part of a good result. Clean, clean, clean then clean again. A paint dealer that sells SEM paints will also have products to clean & prep/prime for plastic/vinyl painting. I suggest using products from one manufacturer to minimize incompatability issues.

Let us know how it turns out. Some before/during/after photos would be nice...

Congrats on the 93 and welcome to this forum!

I have had success with SEM paints on my interior but I didn't do the black armrests.

When I look at a can of the SEM paint it looks like it will work for what you need to do. There a a plastic prep solution(38353) that you might want to purchase to clean everything before you actually paint.

I'm not certain of which black is the right one though. I'm certain the Gloss will be shiny and the Satin will be softer (not as shiny). I have no idea about the Landau. Hopefully someone else knows better.

Good luck!
