Tire Pressure & Tires

Hi all,

These are some newbie questions so here goes (be gentle, I'm still learning):

1) what is the correct front and rear tires pressures for the 1984 Alfa Romeo Spider?

2) Where is the best place, online or offline, to get new tires for the 1984 Alfa Romeo Spider?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Good question. Not sure if you can go by what Alfa states in the owner's manual if you put on new wider, lower aspect tires. I bought new tires at a local tire store that I've dealt with often with my other cars. With 195/65-14s, I keep them at 30 psi. Not sure what a good place to get tires from online would be. Tire Rack certainly makes it easy to compare tires and look at others' comments. Searching the BB will give you the opinions of the members here. Good luck with it.

Stock pressure on stock tires is 28F & 26R

Like Reed and Murray, I run higher pressures, but it's due to different than stock tires, so at minimum you'd want to inflate to a point where the load rating #'s matched the stock requirement.

EG:
Stock load F is 986~1008 at a pressure of 28psi
Stock load R is 922~944 at a pressure of 26psi

To achive that load range using Falken RT-615 195/60R14 you'd need

32-33psi (995~1025) F and 29-30psi (926~945) R just to start with a minimum base pressure.

I run Nitrogen in mine....got the tires at costco...v rated michelin, and run at 35 all arouned. The roads here in rural Nevada are wide open, high speed (if you are careful, and use an ESCORT) With the roof down, they feel great. Be sure that you allign and balance at speed.

Falken are great value tires and Tire Rack does not sell them. Try Vulcan Tire or Discount Tire. I have Falken Ziex on my Spider, GTV6 and Milano Verde.

Through cross referencing load charts for stock sized tires and the Falkens.

Nah, there's charts available on most all the manufacturers websites.

Actually I think it's kind of a rule so as to avoid legal repercussions should people buy radically different sized and/or plied (plyed?) tires and end up with a failure due to improper inflation.
