Small '77 Spider detail questions

1. Do just the window winders get a bezel? I have four black plastic bezels. I don't think they came off this car, but... The inside hole is rather large - approximately one inch. The bezel doesn't look right on (under) the inside door handle.

2. This might be strictly a CA situation. There are two plastic 'plates' on the driver's side door jamb. One discussing the catalytic converter and the other has the VIN number and date of birth (in this case 5/77).

Which one mounts on top? I'm guessing it's the VIN, etc. one.

On my '77, the window handle has a black bezel under it. It's just slightly bigger than the base of the handle so it's not obvious.

The VIN plate is on top. Interestingly, the date of manufacturing for mine is 6/76. I guess the model year started earlier back then!?

Reed, thanks for the info. So you refer to your '76 Spider as a '77? In the case of having my late (as in November) '75 Alfetta GT title changed from a '76 to a '75, I no longer have to have it tested every two years. Turned out I had information the DMV didn't so they (reluctantly) accepted it. Best two hours and $50 I ever spent.

According to the VIN number it's a '77 and I agree...having to do some extra legwork to get the car registered as an "historic" vehicle is great, now no inspection of any kind required in NJ.

Are you two up for a couple of more '77 Spider detail questions?

These most likely they are interrelated: The rubber hood straps mount underneath the turn type fastener in the crotch of the inside wheel well. There is a grommet above and directly behind the bolt for the metal seat belt strap.

How are the straps supposed to hold the top down and how do the grommets figure in?

I'll add that this top has the padded sides, so wondering if it can even go all the way down. I've not tried lowering it all the way yet since I've been letting the canvas stretch so a human can fasten the front latches.

The tonneau which covers the top when stowed on my 81 has a strap on each side which hooks to the toggle. I would imagine the 77 is similar.
