1978 Euro Spider 2000 Veloce - Engine rebuild (engine bay painted too...)

Hi!

A friend of mine has just purchased soem months a go a 1978 Spider Veloce, a euro version. The car is a french registered car, and his last owner cared it quite well. Despite this, a 30 years car show its age, so it has some minor things to fix.

The more evident was a faulty engine running in 3 cilinders, so we took off the engine to rebuild it.

Some pictures of the car and the work we are doing. Hope you like them.

Regards, Alvaro.

With the proper guides and stones a hand drill would do the job but, it would be a lot slower than a valve grinding driver.

Since a valve turns ever so little every time it opens and closes that technique should not work resulting in a burnt valve JMO

Sorry still old school

Whoops, my mistake. I thought he was using a guide and stone doing the valve job rather than actually lapping the valve. Maybe I should look a little closer.

Hi!

A good wireless handdrill can turn the valve very very slowly, and you can change the turning side several times and vey fast. Guide must be oiled, of course.

The job can be nicely done with care and patience. Obviously, the finishing ( with the finest lapping compound ) is done by hand.

Regards, Alvaro.

It's nice to see a fellow Euro-Spider with carbs and other familiar parts; when the US guys talk about SPICA and anti-pollution stuff and things like that, I'm always confused :-)
Doesn't that fuel filter between your carbs mess up your carbs balance?
(No comment on the valve grinding question, I'm waaay to stupid in everything that is engine-related. I'd tackle everything but the interior of the engine and the drivetrain.)

Engine bay ready....

Hi!

We made some progressions this weekend.
The engine bay is now almost ready, with everything freshly painted and clean.
We cleaned, ordered and routed the brake lines, the wire looms... now it looks nicer.

Note the supplementary electric fan on the nose, it helps to keep the Spider cool. The fan is manually switched.

This week, we hope to get the engine finished, as the parts have just arrived from Victor Parts ( victorparts.com ), rings, crank & rod bearings, seals, a new water pump....

Regards, Alvaro.
