Help with my 1987 score!!!!!!
I just picked up a 87 Graduate with only 32k miles, no rust and original paint the car has been sitting since 93! I have boiled out the tank new fuel pumps fuel line cleaned injectors and a new cold start injector, the car started right up!! But when i try to drive it it surges like some one learning out to drive a car with a clutch for the first time, when the car gets going it runs out better than my 85 any suggestions? plus i want to change out all the fluids in the car gear box, rear end, what types do i need to use for them and what else do you suggest i do to the car before i start using it for a daily driver, yes i have got the bug my kids think i am nuts!!! one other thing when the car is running and you pull out the dip stick or open up the oil file cap the rpms drop?????

That surging could be a good indicator of a false air leak.
Might wanna also check the AAV function to see that it's not stuck WFO as that'll cause some really goofy stuff to happen once the engine is warmed up.
Clean the contacts at the AFM too. (well, clean ALL the contacts and grounds you can find, but start at the AFM)
Check fuel pressure. New hoses and clean injectors don't neccisarily mean functional regulator.
Differential oil is usually pretty forgiving in the sense that most any 80W/90 gear oil will do, but you'll wanna be reading every thread you can find regarding what to put in the trans. You'll likely also need a 12mm allen wrench or socket w/12mm stub to use on the diff and trans plugs. (make sure you can get the fill plugs out before you even look at the drain plugs, unless you wanna figure out how to turn the car upside down to refill those items because the fill plug is frozen in place )

That's actually good sign indicating that your prolly not suffering from any really huge false air leak(s). At least at idle.
Oh, while poking around in there, check your intake manifold rubber bits. They got a nasty habit of going from 'looks good' to 'cracked all the way through' with little or no stopping between point A and point B

As Tifosi has stated, the rpm dropping when you unseal the engine is a good sign. There still might be some intermittent intake air/vacuum leaks. Check very carefully as L-jet is very intolerant of such air leaks.
It would also be a good idea to remove the Oil Vapor Separator to clean it out. They tend to get crudded up (technical term...) and block proper scavanging/air flow. Check the small diameter hose that leads from the bottom of the OVS back to the sump. It can clog up, too.
And don't forget to post some photos. We likes photos. They can even be of the Spider...

I assume you changed the fuel filter?
Did you remove the injectors and send them out for blueprinting and ultrasonic/solvent cleaning, including changing the internal inlet screen, pintle cap and the seals? if not you should (Cruzin performance is one recommended place).
For the trans, I am very happy with Redline 75W90NS in my 87 Quad(make sure it is the NS type).
New plugs...NGK BP7ES...
Also check the TPS switch is it closing at 0 degree throttle?
Lastly, I would suspect the fuel rail pressure regulator as has been suggested above!
Best regards and welcome to the fraternal order of 87 Quads! Elio

Betcha it's a loose clamp on one end of the big plenum between the fender- mounted air flow sensor and the intake manifold. At idle, all is well. Starting out from a stop, the engine counter rotates pulling the plenum away from the loose end...engine dies... engine returns to original position...engine fires...repeat. Very embarrassing in traffic.

I agree
I concur with Con Brio... probably either a loose clamp or a/multiple cracks in the accordian material on the plenum. You can fix it with either a new plenum, or the infamous shoe goo trick.

Check the Intake Clamps on Bosch FI !!
Hello All:
As someone who only gets on the BB about every six weeks and then goes through pages of posts, I think I have a special opportunity to detect patterns. I've only gone through the last few pages, and already three (3) inquiries about bucking in first gear. Truth be told, I get the same issue every year or so and it's always the clamps between the air cleaner box and the intake manifold. My engine mounts are shot (not looking forward to the passenger side replacement) and that situation is no doubt the primary reason my joints loosen up. And what's up with the service manuals advice to not overtighten the clamps in the event of a backfire?? OK, I know, if I fix the mounts, the properly tightened clamps won't be an issue, but until then, my 2 foot cheater bar still gets a workout every time the problem presents .
This situation almost deserves it's own "Sticky".
Cheers,
Steve

To ensure that the hose pops off rather than blasting the AFM flap shut and possibly doing damage to it.
Well, that and to keep you on your toes maintenance~wise.

thanks for all the help on my 87 score!
Here are some pictures of it right when i got the car 32k sat since 93!!! and after i getting it back from the painter. It was dropped off at the upholsterer on Friday for a complete interior RED! and a new top will post those pictures next week, the last picture is just before the painter got started. Id like your opinion on the interior Black carpet, RED seats and door panels, here is my dilemma, Piping RED or BLACK stitching RED or BLACK , I Was also thinking about having the ALFA ROMEO script embroidered in black or the ALFA ROMEO shield done in black on the head rests what do you think?

Oh, and as to the the interior query:
Pick what catches your fancy the best, though I think personally I'd avoid any kind of customization of the headrests other than piping if the rest of the seat has a pattern.
Embroidery on the headrests just kinda screams 'prat' to me when I see it on any kind of car. (especially them dillweeds who put thier name on one and thier wife/girlfreind/boyfreind/partner on the other. Then my opinion goes from 'prat' to 'deuchebag' LOL)

And what a nice, fast color it is!
As to the interior I prefer the tan for an understated elegance. It is a matter of what makes you happy. The lighter the color, the fewer the burns when hopping in after setting in the sun.
