What fluid goes in steering box for 79 Spider?

Curious what fluid goes in a steering box....it is a 1979 ZF brand box.

90W gear oil. Don't recall the quantity though.

If it doesn't leak - gear oil. 75W90 or similar.
If it leaks - grease, until you have time to replace the seal. AAA semi-liquid grease is easy to pour into the filler hole.

If it leaks, change the lower seal.

Semi liquid grease is intended for use in leaking gear cases. It is widely used in underground equipment. It will not hurt your steering box.
Of course, it is best to replace the seal, but in the meantime grease will keep everything lubricated and prevent excessive wear.
