On my way home from work I was going down a hill in third. About midway down I began to lose power and it didn't even sound like the transmission was supposed to sound. I depressed the accelerator and nothing happened.
Luckily there was a side street right there so I put her in neutral glided in (also lucky there was no traffic). Noticed the engine was off.
She started so I eased into first then second and then the same thing happened again. No sound, just kind of dead noise. Then I couldn't start her again.
Called AAA for a tow home. While I was waiting I tried starting and reversed and everything went fine. I wasn't going to push my luck so I got her towed home.
When I got home I again put in reverse - went fine - then when I went to go forward the engine died and it wouldn't start. Pushed in the garage.
(As she was getting lowered off the flatbed I noticed some fluid. Red on the finger.)
Looking at some of the older threads one caught my eye. Guy talked about the trans crunching in 1st and in Reverse. Probably the clutch not disengaging all the way. Mine was acting like this as well but since I have never owned an alfa before I thought this was normal and anyway, if I waited, I could get in with no crunch (most of the time). This isn't feasible at a stop light though.
Note: I just remembered the other day as I was moving from a stop light I popped out of first. I heard a thunk - was like that's not good - put her back into first and with some trepidation started moving forward. Fine.
Hmm. What is she trying to tell me? lack of knowledge of signs, yes. But I shouldn't have taken her to work today. I should not have forgot that it had popped out.
Any thoughts or thread recommendations?
Still glad I got her though.
