What's it cost to maintain a 90 Spider? The answer.

Interesting info I thought I'd share: As part of the package I put together for the insurance company to value my car, I did a spreadsheet of all the costs for the last 5 years. It's a 1990 and a daily driver.

Minus the paint/body work and alarm, the total was approx 14k or $235 per month. 3k was spent this year.

Murray
Murray is correct I guess I should have made that clear. His comments should be taken into consideration if you are trying to guestimate your own costs. I'm getting the impression people are thinking the numbers sound high. Keep in mind this was my only car and I was maintaining it for the long run because I intended to keep it another 40 years, needed it to be reliable and I took it to concourse events. I prefer to avoid breakdowns, and have only rarely experienced them. You could go without replacing the cigarette seals and letting the oil leak, buy a cheaper top and tires, used parts etc. if you were trying to save money. Extrapolate these numbers depending on your own preferences for maintaining and driving your car.

bimholte - I may eventually post the spreadsheet, but I would want to clear that with my mechanic in case he doesn't want his prices posted.

Craig LNU - Insurance dealings have been slow and I've had them reverse what they told me they were initially going to do (this was a good thing by the way). I will post updates on my picture form when they are more concrete. Basically I've submitted a very comprehensive 95 page package to insurance and need to wait for them to try to figure out what a car that is near impossible to get exact comps, which is what they want, for is worth. I don't think the condition of the car will be in question, just the value.

fetta78 - It's summer, get out of those sedans and drive the spider till the tires run bare. That ought to set you back a few bucks.

I can't.....................my Spider doesn't run!

Just kiddin', I probably would drive it more if the A/C worked (95 degrees and humid) but then I would have to spend money on it and that would blow my afore mentioned $235 a year!

I guess cars do cost money to maintain properly.......................
