Oil Vapor Separator Hose Question

I have a 79 Spider with a set of after market Air cleaners that the PO installed. The PO also ran a section of rubber tubing from the bottom of the OVS along the bottom of the car and out the back near the axle. I know this tube is supposed to connect to the bottom of the SPICA air box.
Is the current situation harmful to the performance of the engine or just messy and adding more emissions?

The engine has no air pump, it does have headers with a catalytic convertor but there are no sensors hooked up to the CAT.

The hose from the rocker cover to the OVS is cracked and will be replaced. The OVS appears to be plugged up with rust. I am not sure I want to mess with it so I am going to make a replacement like the one shown in the STICKY by Battlebug. What are my options for routing the vapors out of the bottom of the OSV?

Thanks,

Gary

On my Bosch FI'ed 82 one of the vapor lines goes to a nipple on the aluminum intake while another one goes to a nipple on the dip stick tube, to drain back into the sump. I think earlier models drained that way as well. I saw one post that said on the 90's models Alfa put a nipple on the sump on the intake side so you don't need a 6 foot hose to reach the dip stick tube.

Good luck with it!

Thanks Bill!
On this one, there are two small like 3/16" diameter lines that come off of nipples on the OVS. ONe goes under the radiator to the dip stick and the other goes to a small fitting on the side of the rocker cover.

It's the large 3/4" hose out of the bottom of the OVS that is being vented to the atmosphere. Not sure if it is an issue or if it will caues the engine to run funny.

I ran mine into the top of a used oil bottle, drilled the cap to fit the hose, and a few small holes to vent. I kind of catch bottle for any drips of oil that made it thru. there are no sensors in the 79 cat, because there is no input to the spica mechanical injection system. no computer, no sensors for that, onl temprature, throttle position, and such.
