Front wheel bearing part numbers
I have read elsewhere that most wheel bearings can be purchased at a bearing supply. I recently replaced my rear wheel bearings and latter saw that I could have saved 50% had I bought them locally rather than one of the usual suppliers. (Don't get me wrong I buy everything from IAP and Ceneterline and have never had a problem with either company) I contacted a large bearing supplier and they suggested that I bring in my bearings for a match since they do not have automotive cross references. I will do that, but if anyone has any part numbers for the fronts on a '71 spider that are non Alfa numbers that would save time.

front wheel bearing part number
I work for Timken, who makes automobile bearings among other things. I know they have part numbers for Alfas going back pretty far, because I found their part number for my 81 Spider, which they still make (it also fits other cars besides Alfas).
When I get to work tomorrow (Monday) I will get on the company intranet and see if they have a part number for 71 Spiders.
At last this would give you one manufacturer cross reference part number for your search.

I got Timken bearings for my Spider from Auto Zone. They were half the price that IAP charges. They are excellent bearings.

front wheel bearing part numbers
While I am trying to get 71 front wheel bearing part numbers, I will get all Timken bearing numbers for all Alfas and post them for anyone to use as a reference.

front wheel bearing part numbers
All,
Here's the info on the Timken wheel bearing part numbers for Spiders:
Front wheel bearings for 1969 thru 1994 Spiders, inner seal part number is 224100, inner bearing assy part number is 30206M, and outer brg assy number is 32303. Qty required is listed at 2 each, presumably one for each side of the car?
Rear wheel brgs for 1976 thru 1994 Spiders, seal number is 223035, and brg number is 88107, again listed as 2 each.
For 1969 and 1970 Spiders, rear brg number is 88508, again listed as 2 each.
Just for yuks, I went on line and looked up the Auto Zone site, and they reference the same Timken numbers I show above, and refer to them as OEM equipment. Also, I looked at the Auto Parts Warehouse internet site, and they sell the Beck Arnely brand, refer to them as aftermarket, and charge almost twice as much.
No listings for Spiders before 1969, or for the years 1971 thru 1975. I am guessing this means that Timken did not have the OEM contract from Alfa, but the part numbers that would fit may very well be one or the other of the 1970 version or the 1976 version. Perhaps other members know if this is possible, and which is more likely.
I will take a look tomorrow for Spider grease seal and other numbers, and if anyone needs part numbers for Alfa's other than Spiders, I will be glad to look. I noticed on the catalog site there are listings for selected parts and years for Alfetta, Berlina, Giulia, Milano, Sport, and 164.

Thanks John
A note to Richard and Esno ....You are going to need rear bearing "retainers" both IAP and Centerline list these. I do not think you are going to find them at a bearing place as they are an Alfa mechanical part.
In the process of removing the old rear wheel bearings you will be forcing off the retainer. You should replace the retainer with a new one.
Look under my postings, as I have replaced my own bearings and explained the nuances to others before. There are other postings as well by others...
I would not allow anyone to flame cut off your old bearings as it could likely distort the trueness of each half shaft.

I ordered the parts today at Autozone. I am not certain I saved anything but it was easy and I will have them tomorrow. I compared prices at a local bearing company, as well as online. Prices where as follows (in round numbers):
Seals
AZ= $8
Local Bearing Co = $11
Alfa supplier $6
Inner bearing
both are between $10-11
alfa supplier $21
Outer bearing
AZ=$35
LBC= $30
Alfa supplier $26
I think when you add it up, and figure shipping or tax, if you want to order everything at one place, the price is a push.
Note: I did the rears last month. It was not easy but what a difference!

Esno, where are you?
Unless you are in Zinbabwe or Afghanistan, it makes no sense to order bearings from the USA. Bearings are generic and have international standards with cross refference #'s.
There is nothing unique to Alfa's Bearings..

Timken bearings wrong size
I got my order from Auto Zone. The seals are correct, the outers are correct but the 30206 inners will not work on my spider. The bearing and race are about 1/16" thicker than the FAG bearing they are replacing. Everything looks good but when you slap it together the retainer nut is backed off that 1/16" from normal and the hole into which the cotter pin should be inserted is covered up. I have verified that the races are completely set and that the rear bearing is seated all the way on. BTW these are the bearings that auto zone lists for the 71 spider as well.
