Series 3 Spider Fuel Filler Release Cable Replacement

The fuel filler flap release cable broke again on my 87 spider. It was broken when I bought the car. The cable broke at the circular loop piece (looks like this --O). The thin cable was accessible so I attacheda different loop piece that I had in the garage. It worked for a few months then broke again. I am planning to buy a whole new cable and install it, but when I look in the trunk area and along the body panel behind the driver's seat I'm not sure how difficult it will be to install the new cable. Anyone ever replace this cable? How difficult was it?

I replaced mine (in 87 Quad) by cutting the end of the old cable, withdrawing the cable itself and threading the cable part of the new part. Using the old sheath left in place. I also did a light lube of the new cable. I could not see what would be gained by replacing the sheath. Worked good for me (3 years).
