85 Spider trouble staying started

HI All

when 1st starting the car it runs fine for several (3-5)seconds,then I have to keep pumping gas pedal a little to keep it running.Car will run fine after it is warmed up but turn it off for a minute or two does the same thing again.once warmed up it will run all day.idle is a little high though 1000-1100 rpm. do not have a alfa mechanic in my area.Does anyone know what the problem might be.I replaced the plugs(ngk) cap, rotor, wires.Any alfa mechanics in the New bedford mass. area

Thanks

Lots of info in the L-jet diagnosis page - link is in my signature.

Pay particular attention to the proper operation of the AAV & check carefully for any intake air leaks. Both described in the L-jet page.

Spot on suggestion regarding the L-jet page. Mucho good info to be had there, even if you don't actually 'need' to look something up.

Regarding a mechanic:

If the situation were truly desperate, one could try and find a VW dealership that's been around for many, many years that still has a mechaninc who was around in the 80's and/or early 90's.

VW used L-jet in almost an identical configuration during that era. (BMW and Volvo also IIRC, but VW people tend to be nicer in general)

Still, if you've got and can use a multimeter along with a moderate amount of regular tools, there's little you can't do yourself with the system at home for free.
