So this is my first post to the forum, I recently purchased a 1986 spider veloce. One of my first projects is to fix the ebrake. The linkages were seized from sitting too long. So I was able to get one moving. So this is my issue. I have it so when I pull the brake the right linkage moves slightly left to right but the left linkage didn't move. The funny thing is that the left wheel brake is now on and doesn't spin but right still spins freely. It should be the other way around. I haven't probed any further just thought this was odd. Any thoughts from the experts out there as I am obviously missing something.
It normally doesn't take a lot of movement to expand those brake shoes, or at least it shouldn't. The least tug on that left side cable, and they will expand outward. I suggest you just keep spraying all the pivot points and the cable itself with a good penetrating oil, go back after a while and work those linkages. It will take a while if they're that rusty.
Once you get it all working, lube the pivots with real oil, like 3 in 1 or other general purpose oil. Don't forget the mechanism forward, under the lever. Some folks like to use lithium lube, and I think it has better staying power over time than just lightweight lube oil.
Thanks alfaloco for the input. I'll keep working them. I figured it was just probably years of no use. I may in the end need to adjust the cable for the right wheel as that bracket moves probably an inch or so but that brake doesn't engage so something is going on there. Thanks

If the car has been sitting for some time, the likelihood may be the brake calipers are seized. A bit of rust on the Pistons goes a long way. You can pry back the pads with a suitable bar. This should let you move the rotor with the ebrake off. Now you can determine brake pads or ebrake shoes. If the pistons are rusted then you will need to remove and replace them or shine them up with emory paper. Alfa's do not like their brakes to sit unused.
Cheers, Jon
