Painting bumper - existing paint?

Name: bumper.jpg

I have read many posts about painting the bumper (87 S3). I have bought all kinds of stuff to do the job. I am painting it all black.

Simple question. Do I have to strip off the silver first?

If so, what stripper to use? Or just sand it off?

As of 3/19/17: NEXT: Paint bumper. Get front side light working. Refurbish inside driver side door area.

Hi Gary
Im doing the same. Im just lightly sanding and then a primer and then Ill spray..
I need the warmer weather coming to get the painting started. I used 1000 grit to rough the surface a little...

Hope it works for you..

Filler?

What filler material/product do you plan to use to fill the gouges that are too deep to sand out? I purchased some SEM Bumper Coat last year and was planning to do this project this year.

SEM 68422 Bumper Repair

SEM 42013 Grey High Build Primer

SEM 39083 Gloss Black Bumper Coater Aerosol

I referred to the SEM web site for products since I was also going to use their bumper coat. I was told to keep the same manufacturer.

Another one is Evercoat Maxim 100898 2 part plastic repair. I also used a flexibilizer for the paint for the plastic, for those of us where SEM isn't readily available
