Need a new battery for my '88 Spider, what should I look for specifically?

I think a good sealed battery like the Optima is the way to go. You have to remove the battery to the check fluid level (pita). Thats what I plan on using the next time and also use the side posts, because the top is to close to the fender. Richard

I am sure someone will soon chime in and tell you about the odyssey battery.

I personally have a yellow top optima like Murray in my 92.

Best Regards,
John M

I like the OPTIMA's too. I have one in the Spider and the Milano. I trickle charge them over the winter, and they start the cars easily in the spring. Both of mine are red tops.

OPTIMA, per the recommendation of two Alfa mechanics, now sits in my Spider.

I've switched all the Alfas to Optimas. Love them!

Spider battery.

What ever you buy, make sure that:
1) the positive post is on the left side when both posts are FACING THE TRUNK. (just in case you need to jumpstart someone "

2) the more powerful the better for winter starting, if applicable to you.

Don't buy a cheapie Autozone battery. Not enough power to run the ECU, ignition etc. I have an Interstate in my 88 spider. Works well.

You knew it was coming...

I have an Odyssey Drycell in my Junior, and I'll never buy another after-market battery. No fluid, small, weighs 15 pounds and is supposed to last 11 years. Plenty of power to start my Junior even if it's sat for a month between starts.
