help! rear disc brake removal...

hi,
i've been trying to remove the rear driver side brake disc on the stock dunlop brake system on my '65 ti. i'm in the process of replacing the reverse treaded wheel studs into longer right hand ones. i have removed the two flat head screws that i thought were the only screws securing the disc to the axle but i obviously i'm wrong. i pulled the axle already, pounded the studs and removed the 2 flathead screws but how come the disc won't come out? do i need to have the wheel bearings taken out at a machine shop so i can just slide the disc out through the axle?
any help will be appreciated...thanks!

it's probably just stuck! I had the same problem, when i first purchased my car. Try to soak it with some wd40, or something, and just bang it out. Hamertime!

Apart from the WD40 which performs miracles I would also consider heating it up with a heatgun.
Takis.

There may be a small edge or lip on the inside of the drum that the brake shoes may be hanging on. See if you can get to the adjustment mechanism and back the shoes away from the drum a bit.

Hi Benji, There is a substantial amount of surface for rust to form on and hold the disc tight. Looking at the outside of the disc, the big hub is probably rusted to the round concave center hub. That is what happens to ATE discs and I think yours is the same. You would spray the WD40/PB Blaster right there. You may not be able to save the disc from being bent in this operation. Runout needs to be less than .008.

help!

mr. c,
you're correct! i guess the previous owner never serviced the rear brakes on the car. the hub and the disc look like conjoined twins! i sprayed wd40 on it as generous as i can. tomorrow, i will use a propane torch to heat it up a bit then start hamering the center of the hub with a brass hammer. i hope that the disc will separate then...
thanks again for your help!
mr. c...it reminds me of a friend's dad in college. we called him mr. c is because he is super rich, hence his initial c for CASH!

help

thanks everyone! i was able to finally remove the disc! i took the axle to a machine shop to have the wheel bearing pressed out, replace the bolts and press a new bearing in. i have also installed it in my car and was able to fit a turbina w/ 205/60/14's! now, on to the next part of the project...replace the fronts w/ bigger brakes so i can fit the fronts w/ the remaining turbinas. as soon as the car is done, i'll take a picture and post it.
