Noisey Tachometer

My 1970 giulia has developed a ticking noise comming from the tach, it also fluctuates a few hundred RPM, especially when it's cold out. Anyone have advise before I go tearing the guts out of the dash to get to the tach? Do I just need to oil this puppy?

Thanks in advance,
Paul

The tachometer itself should not be oiled. I would remove the cable and check/replace it. Your symptoms could be a bad cable.

Or just loosen the cable attachment at the tach and let if find its own new sweet spot, then retighten, or leave a little loose.

Most of my Alfas' tachs and speedos over the years have made noise at some point, especially when it's cold out.

it's the cold I had it today. It's 40F out side. It will go away otherwise loosen it up and give it a little grease.

Happy Motoring
