Autodelta Ti Super

Here are some pictures of the Autodelta-prepared Ti Super that won the twelve Hours of Marlboro driven by Winkler and VanDerVate. The first two pictures are of Rasey Feezell driving the car after he bought the car. I don't remember what track he said this was. This was late '60's or maybe 1970. That's the best that I can determine.

Here are some pictures of the car after I bought it from Rasey. That would have been in 1971 or 1972.

He had pulled off a lot of the racing goodies before selling it to me - headers, 45 Webers, oil cooler, limited slip differential, 90 liter gas tank. I bought it with a stock 1600 GTV engine (w/40 DCOE's and stock cast iron headers), stock gearbox, and a 5.12 rear with welded spider gears (done by Rasey for me). Right after I bought it, I purchased a hot 1600 from Rasey and he helped me do the swap. That engine had the original Autodelta-prepped cylinder head. I don't recall what pistons it had. It was a ball to drive on the street and to autocross, but with 10.6 cams, it really needed close ratio gears.

When I first got the car, I had BWA's on it. I got them from Rasey. He used them for rain tires. He did not need the rain tires any more, so I used them on the street.

Later, I bought a set of Campys from Rasey and put them on. (notice how I was a steady consumer of retired/out-of-date race cars and parts for Rasey. Truly a symbiotic relationship!) With the Campys I used re-treaded Firestone Indy race tires. Back then, there was a tire shop in North Carolina (I forget which city) that would re-tread race tires. You could get soft rubber for racing or a harder compound for street.

A roll cage had been added to the car after its arrival in the US. I assume Winkler/VanDerVate had it done. There was a tag riveted to the main hoop, right at the center top. I could not read the whole thing, but I remember it said, "Falls Church, Virginia." And I could make out enough of the wording to tell that it was put there by the guy who did the cage.

Several years after I sold the car, I was reading the preface of a Tilton catalogue where Mac Tilton was recounting his motorsports background. He said that his first big racing success was preparing the Alfa that won the Twelve Hours of Marlboro, when he lived in Falls Church, Virginia! That adds some great additional history to the car.

I ran an ad in The Alfa Owner for the car (1973, I say. I have all of my old Owner issues, but I don't have time to hunt for it now) and sold it to Tom Atkins, or Atkinson, I can't recall. I think he was from Denver. Last I heard (5-7 years ago), he still had the car.

Thanks for those great period shots. You've really owned some of the best!
Interesting also the inner fender modification with the shock mount accessible from the engine compartment to allow intallation of the longer trumpets - I have seen that on a few TI Supers.

Great old shots. I see you have some photos from Action ltd, do you know how to get in touch with the photographer? This photographer covered lots of the SCCA central region races in the sixties.

Roman Tucker now owns this car and will be happy to see these photos.

I'm sorry, but the only address I know of is the one stamped on the proofs that I posted here. Rasey gave me those proofs when I bought the car from him. I never dealt with Action Ltd directly.

Had a new Giulia Super in 1969 and still have the pic with the speedo at 100 + mph on a straight on the way from Jasper to Banff. (sigh)

Would love to have had the Ti Super (more sighs).
