Smile Gotta fix what I got!

My Giulia Nuova Super has rust bubbles on the bottom of thr drivers door and the passenger side rear door. I have been looking for replacement doors but find that they are expensive and nearly all are also rusty to some degree.
I have decided to have the present doors repaired. The car is at the body shop now. The young man who is working on it does very nice work and I am anxious to get it back (after the race at Indy).

I learned a couple of things during this exercise.
1) There is no cheap way to fix anything.
2) The original drains on the bottom of the doors (rectangular ones) are in right places and should be cleaned every time you wash the car.
3) There are wiper brushes on the window frames that are replaceable. They should fit so that they fill the ENTIRE window space front to rear. If you leave any space on the ends, rain and wash water will find its way in the door.
4) The plastic moisture barrier on the door before the door uphostery must be in good shape and must be sealed to prevent warpage of the inner door panel.

Hope somone got some good out of this.

I would propose the following improvements:
3) If you are not bothered by a non-original look, you can replace the brushes on the horizontal window frame with rubber equivalents which do a better job in keeping water out.
4) Paint the inner door panels with marine lacquer to make it water-resistant. Caution: The lacquer may warp the panel, so you will have to find a way of keeping it flat while drying.
Regards
Yorgos

You can buy the window wiper material new. I got it from Ranier Hurtienne in Germany (since taken over by someone else) a couple years ago. You remove the stainless trim from the window openings, unstaple the wiper from the horizontal trim, and fasten on the new wipers with new staples. Time-consuming but worthwhile.

Yorgos and Andrew I thank you both very much. I have been ordering things from Ranier for years but never saw the window wiper material. I will go to their site, find it and order it. BTW they are now called Alfa Service.

Alfa Service

As far as I know, Rainer Hurtienne still runs the shop, they just changed the name. I spoke to him about 6 weeks ago while ordering some goodies.
regards
Bob
