Thats right, I have alot of money in the berlina and I am have a long way to go. My wife is excited about driving it again on our 25th aniversary this month. I hope the values keep going up to what I have in it restoring and driving it over the past 33 years.

I believe that the price for the berlina is rather high, but then again, I have two Giulias.

One cost me 4.000 Euro to buy and another 15.000 Euros over the years to get/keep it running. Due to one so called German alfa specialist, the engine had to be redone completely twice within 1.000 miles of driving.

The other one is completely original with it's first paint job, no rust, has 33.000 kms on the clock and came on it's first set of tires last year. That car cost me 13.000 Euro. Nobody wanted to buy it because the price was so high. I believe that the second car was much cheaper in the end and if you have a very good unwelded car with it's first paint, no restored car ever will be better.

So I strongly believe that every Euro/$ spent on a good car during purchase will save you triple that over the years if you keep the car.

or you can pay $US 5800 in New Zealand

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Mo...-103445317.htm

not original or anything but looks loved. Our "warrent of Fitness" for cars are pretty tough on rust, so fixes have to be solid.

It does amaze me as a newbie how much prices vary around the world.

Have seen 105s go from $7000US to $20,000US in NZ. All for modified non-original cars.

Makes it hard as a buyer to determine what is good value or not.

There's no doubt the US is seeing the highest prices for old Alfas at the moment, and I'd say Australia/NZ is probably experiencing the lowest comparable prices.

It seems US and EU markets have a greater affinity for the Alfa brand than we have down here. But also, because there's a much larger population base, the collector market overall is a lot bigger, so there's more demand in proportion to the number of cars available.

In Australia I think the market is currently fascinated with anything built in Australia in the 60s and 70s, and that's where collectors' interests lie at the moment. The exhorbitant prices being paid for old Aussie muscle cars is testimony to that.

Original cars that nice are VERY difficult to find, IMO

Nuova Super

Mine could be bought for $40k, not a penny less. (Don't worry, the Hi-Tracs up front have been swapped left to right immediately after the photo.) PM if you're crazy enough, but I'll have to find another...
