Question alloy bodied sedan

Hi there,
can anyone help me find info about the alloy bodied guilia sedan.Is this model called a tii?I've searched with no luck.A link to a post or two would be much appreciated.Thanks,Fletch.

What alloy would that be? All Giulias have an alloy body, steel is an alloy (of iron alloy).

Maybe the Super TI has aluminum alloy doors and hoods?

I remember reading on this forum a few years back(before the data crash I think),about a guilia sedan version of a GTA. I.E. a guilia sedan with twin plug head and full duralum body a la GTA.Can anyone shed light on which model this might be?

I recall a query about an alloy bodied sedan, but seem to recall that it came to nothing. If such a beast existed, it would surely be documented somewhere. I've got most of the books on Alfa's, including the GTA books & have never come across anything on an alloy Giulia Sedan ?

The Ti Super had conventional steel doors, bonnet & boot - there was some talk of thinner steel, but also not substantiated - more likely was non application of any sound deadener to keep the weight down. The SS spec motor, lighweight seats, alloy wheels, plexiglass rear window options, all helped to keep the weight down

The Tii is a 2002 BMW designation, it was the fuel injected version of the 2002. Ti stands for Turismo Internasionale, or International Touring, (not to be confused with the Coachbuilder Touring). So the Tii, would be the Turismo Internasionale Iniezione.

I never heard of an alloy Giulia. Some TI Supers allegedly had thinner than standard steel, but I've never seen actual documentation of that. Never heard of an alloy one, but it is a great idea and would be amazing if one turned up. Maybe the wildcats down in SA built one?

There was a TI Talledega, which has been mentioned here a few times. It was basically a GTA chassis, but from what I know, it was a steel body.

The real unique part was the 1700 cc motor- if you have a CRH, you can see some info for it.

It was made for the flegling IMSA series, and raced only at the Talladega event (which it apparently won going away, and was promptly banned- which caused a nice little feud between Don Black and Mr Bishop).

That's as far as I can think of...

There definitely were TI Supers that had the twinplug motor that were development mules for the GTA. There are actually period pics available. I also do know that some TI Supers had aluminum hood, trunk and doors. I assume that these were done at the factory similar to the 750 monoposto spiders, as the cars had them long before a Giulia TI super was worth anything - in fact I was offered one for $200 at the time but it was a long drive to go and get it . I also am aware of at least one car that has been retrofitted with aluminum doors and lids by its owner.

Alleggerita,you seem to have described the car I mean.Twin plug engine and duralum doors,bonnet and boot.(ok not all outer panels in duralum then). A guilia ti 'mule'. Shame you weren't able to get that one,and at $200 !

The Talledega car is not a Ti, its a modified late (but pre Nuova) Giulia Super. And yes, it would be all steel.

It is almost difficult to believe that the factory would have gone to the extent of making alloy doors and bonnet for some of the Ti Supers and not others... Are there any ideas of the number of Ti Supers built?

501 Ti Supers is the factory official production number.

Sadly there are no "wildcard" alloy Supers out here in South Africa, but we did get at least one genuine Ti Super - I know this because I picked up the original owners handbook at a swapmeet 10 years ago - no one else recognised it for what it was..... It shows the 45Webers, special dash, seats, alloy wheels with hubcaps, & has all the specs of the Ti Super, etc, etc

The best we did here, were the 1600 and 2000 Giulia Rallye's, which were a local homologation of Giulia's with hot 1600 and 2000 motors.

Yo Ben, NOTHING is unbelievable about what the factory and associated semi-official outfits did. There's been heaps of online discussion about the TI Supers having aluminium panels and/or thinner steel but comparisons of part nos. don't categorically confirm or reject this - a good overview of this was found on www.onehost.net/~alfaclu/tisuper1.htm (not sure if that link is still valid - old Alfa Digest stuff - I have a hard copy).

However, the FIA homolgation schedule notes (item 8) that the bodywork material is 'acciaio e alumina' (steel & aluminium)... so, that looks pretty official. It also shows (in an April 1964 supplement) that the 3 shoe front/2 shoe rear drum brakes were homologated... after the discs. Weird, but hey, that's why we like Alfas.

Incidentally, the CAMS copy (dated 20 Mar 1964) of the FIA homologation papers doesn't mention the sliding block diff, so I'm not sure how Alec Mildren Racing slipped that onto their car - unless a later Aussie owner did it (unlikely, as Mildren ran his GTA at the same time as his TI Super and would have been familiar with the sliding block through that connection).
