Changing of the guard

Hi to all you sedan nuts out there,
to better match my BB-name and as the project is almost complete, I have officially changed my Flag ship from the GTV to the Giulia Super 1750. Here are a few pics for starters. I had to stick to the frog's eye perspective so that no one will see that I'm driving around with one brown seat but that will be sorted out as soon as I finally get my 6.4mm pop rivits so that I can put the passenger seat back together.
regards
Bob

When I read the title about changing of the guard, I first though, gee he is gonna have a crappy time drilling out those spot welds! I was pleasantly surprised to see a beautiful giulia in this thread! Congratulations

Not just nice car, but really nice pictures. Are you a pro photographer?

Thanks!!

Thanks for the compliments guys - I need a lot of those at the moment to get me over parting with my gtv. The way I see it the giulia is the nicest of all 105's with so many filigrane details summing up to a simply handsome car and without her there would be no such thing as a GT, GTV, GTA, GTAM, GTC, Duetto/Fastback Spider or Berlina anyway.

Ben: The "Giulia 1300 Super" only had 2 headlights whereas the "Giulia Super 1300" had the usual 4 - there's a very informative thread about the differences in the sedan section and I believe its titled "Giulia Super Differences". Super Differences

Andrew: In fact I'am a photographer - did 3 years of training and worked in the advertising field for almost 15 years - as I also am a trained precision mechanic and needed a change I've now been working as a faculty technician at the university for about 2 years.

Once again, thanks for the compliments and as soon as I am completely finished the refurbishing I'll post some before/after pictures and list some of the details, problems and solutions.
regards
Bob

Okay, gotcha on the lamp arrangement.

I cant quite tell from the photos, but are the wheel centres finished in a slightly different tone from the rims? If so, what is the colour?

Hi Ben,
yes, the centers of the wheels are darker - a lot darker than I wanted them to be. The colour is a dark anthrizite that has a lot of blue in it. As soon as I have the time I'm gonna do'em again, this time in White Aluminium (bright silver) on the rims and Grey Aluminum (mid silver tone like magnesium) on the centers. If you want, I can give you the RAL code numbers, but that probably won't help you much as those are the european codes - presuming you are in NA.
regards
Bob

Nope, i'm in Australia. I'd be interested to see some clearer pics of the wheels if possible as I am about to take the wheels off the 1750 Coupe to renovate them. I've thought about some kind of Graphite grey as my car is silver, and i'd like to contrast the body a bit.

Your rims look really good, and might suit what I am looking to do so i'd be interested in seeing codes anyway.

Hi Ben,
the whole weekend I had this feeling that I had forgotten something and when I got to work this morning it dawned on me ... the pictures for Ben. I took some quick pics this evening and... here they are.

What I did is make up some covers out of thin cardboard using some string and a pencil to do the circle, deflate the wheels and slide the covers between the tires and the rims. I then scuffed the rims with scotchbrite, painted the center part and let it dry. Once the center part was dry I covered it with the round cover (also made of thin cardboard) and painted the outer part. Once finished spraying, I took the cover off (carefully) so that it wouldn't stick when the paint was dry. Repeat four times and you're done!
The seam between the outer and inner rim isn't quite perfect, but you have to look pretty darn close to see that it isn't perfect and taping it off with masking tape would probably take days and not turn out perfect either.
As for the colours... thats up to you. I used regular acrylic based spray paint, but you might want to use some sort of enamel that gets harder, as I already have a couple of chips from removing the hub caps. I didn't put a clear coat on the wheels, but they look fine to me.
regards
Bob
